Greetings all!

I've been told the family is going camping at Yamba next week. Nice!

The better news is that I can get a few hours fishing in here and there, probably evenings, early mornings, or more likely after the kids are in bed.

Any suggestions as to what type of gear to take and a few spots to start off from? I'm a stinky bait fisho who is just starting to try out lures for jewies. I'm prepared to throw large or small baits and have tackle to cope with most options.

Any help appreciated.

Hey mate,

Have a look in the estuary reports section, and look at any thread by ryansrods. He is a jewfish magnet in the Yamba area.

Hey Mate,

Flathead have been about in good numbers there has also been alot of tuna getting around the bottom end of the river.
Just try the sand banks around yamba for flathead, or out along the wall (T-peice would be your best bet on the wall)

For the jewies the wall again would be a good option or "popeyes" being another very good jew spot.
You could also try throwing lures around some of the headlands for jew there has been a few caught in the past week or so.

There hasnt been any big reports of bream in the river......but fish anywhere with a bit of structure and u should be able to get a couple.

Good Luck Mate.

Thanks for that mate!

Are the tuna being caught on lures or livies? If livies are there any non spots Xs where I might pick some up? Livies, that is.

Thanks, Rob.

hey pommy,

try the southern wall for nice fish like flattys and trevs. As i caught my PB flatty (90cm) at yamba, rising tide i think in the early morning, also caught some nice trevs off the same place.

And tehres also cod out there as i was fishing and this massive cod just swam strait past me.

pretty much just throw out a pille and something big will hit it!

Inside or outside wall?

outside the wall, we tried inside but the trawlers were coming in and making even bigger waves then what we previously had and also it was much windier.
so we went over the outside wall where the water was crystal clear i could seem the bottom and all the fish big and small. And when it goes quiet you can always watch the surfurs get knocked around the place, lol

good luck mate!

The tuna have been chasing the gar fish. So i you can get some of them it would be worth throwing 1 on live.
Places to get the gar would be the weed beds around whiting beach and just weed beds in general....
They have also been hitting some lures....1 of my mates was throwing spinners at them.......but he gave that up after he lost 5 of his spinners....
So it would be worth trying both livies and lures..

Good Luck
