Hi, new to gladstone area, can anyone help me with some good estuary and harbour fishing spots at the moment? I have a 4.5mtr tinnie so the harbour would be about the limit.

I would recommend the Calliope river,there is a boat ramp not further than half the way to Tannum/Boyne,i think its called toolooa bends,if i was you i would have a look in there,if you took the time to drive to Boyne Island/Tannum Sands,the boyne river has some fish in there,some mangrove jack,bream and thats what i think you are looking for,they are the places i fish

Chief1 suggests toolooa bends, that's not actually the calliope river, easy mistake to make. Calliope river is northside runs past the power station and exits at the bottom of the narrows. Can be really good fishing, check the saltwater photos chat for a thread titled "Challenge show me a bigger Queenie", i caught that at the hot water outlet from the power station, it runs into Calliope river.

Mate, this time of year you can pick your weather and head anywhere you want, out the front flickking for tuna and mackkies is always fun and the queenies have popped up around rat aswell. Troll the beacons on the way out to jenny lyn also. The river will be coming good for night fishing for salmon soon.

If you want to know more about toolooa bends PM me and i will give you some
tips, also the boyne river is a great place to fish, just go to boyne bait and tackle
and ask for "Lochie" and he can advise you on were to try and about the banks in
the river. Lochie is also an ausfish member , his name is "Plastic Magic". Good luck

what sort of lures are nomally the go for trolling the beacons?

gday cammobull.deep diving minnows(xraps rapala mags)are good for trolling the beacons.metal jigs fished around beacons at top or bottom of tide has been awesome latley.trevally and mackerel.has been some big cobia around the fairway bouy also.

As weather starts to get cooler try near QAL pump station at south trees at night. Fish before btm of the tide up around bridge pylons. Pumps churn up small fry and creates natural berley trail
In close to Rat Island try dropping baits into sandy patches amongst reef may return occaisional trout and red throat and tuskies. Mate picked up a few Grass sweetlip around Rat a few days ago .
Anywhere along mangroves near creeks should produce blue salmon from now on.
Try heading up to Ramsays crossing and try opposite bank to boat ramp also for bream and salmon or head up Caliope River and fish the gutter opposite beecher creek.
This time of year poke your head out front and head out on the outside of facing on the big outs and youll see Sable Chiefrocks about a third of the way down. Its on the maps. It comes out at low water. Can produce ok as well as rocky reef all along outside of facing island.
I used to go round in a 3.6 m tinnie with no dramas.Just take notice of north entrance on a run out tide against the wind.. If North entrance is uncomfortable dont go out.You can pick up some nice spanish flag (tropical snapper) around the edges of North Entrance as well
