Not a juvenile Red I am afraid.

Looks like a Sea Perch (Nannygai), probably a Large Mouth.

Tolga,

Outsider is right, def a Nannygai and prob a Lge Mouth Nannygai (Lutjanus Malabaricus) i heard of some half decent ones coming from rubble/reefy type areas inside the 'pin years ago. We get them in the inlet and rivers up in Cairns, cool to see one out of there though. Ours like yours are always undersize inshore, they got to be 40cm. When bigger they lose the stripe through the eye.

Thankyou All

Yes it was small only about 30cm and yes the bottom was rubbly reefy just out from a rocky drop off

Had me stuffed never caught one before

Thanks again
