Gidday all,
just wondering how you guys rig up your prawns.... Seems every time I do it, all that gets eaten is the head of the prawn. Usually I feed the hook in the prawn's bum and it comes out where the legs meet the torso. Prawns swim 'backwards' right? My logic is that if they swim backwards then they should be rigged this way? I remember Creek Vermin showing a pic of how he reverse rigged his Prawnstar so it retrieved tail first. (And he would know!!)
Any hints & tips on better prawn rigging would be mucho appreciated.

P.S. Might be some cheap fishing charters to Zimbabwe soon... ;-)
P.P.S. Mod- please feel free to relocate post....

If you're rigging a dead prawn then go through the bum, or just forward of it, and slide the prawn around the bite of the hook so that the point of the hook comes out through the bunch of legs at the front. Push the prawn up the shank of the hook so that the prawn lies straight along the hook, not curled up like a letter 'C'. Now put a half hitch of the line around the tail of the prawn and the eye of the hook so that the prawn can't slide back doen the hook into a 'C' shape when you cast. This gives the prawn a very natural look - like a swimming prawn. If you get a bite don't strike unless you feel the weight of the fish moving away - give the fish some line instead. I often find that the first bite is an attack on the head, but if you wait a bit the fish will come back and swallow the rest of the prawn.

Freeedom,
you're the man! Thanks a million- I was half way there, just without the half-hitch around the tail (which of course makes complete and utter sense now!). I'll try out the new rigging method next time I hit the Pine, maybe make my baggie of prawns last alittle longer. On the plus side, it has made me a better SP fisherman ;-)
Thanks again for your wise words, o sage.

if rigging a live prawn turn him upside down spread the legs apart with your hook u will see a hole push hook through & bring out on top of his head, he will stay alive no probs.
