Found scratches just below the first runner
therefore i think the the line is hitting the rod as i did have 650 alvey and the surf rod first runner is less then 2 inches

i was getting bird nets when casting

Mate you may need to reverse the stripper or first runner this allows the line not to slap the legs of the runner
