Looking at buying a new sounder, after much head scratching i've narrowed it down to 2 units. The Lowrance x515 or the Navman 4507. Furuno/ Raymarine/Koden are out of my price range. If youve got one,had one, used both etc could you let me know what you think of these units & which one would be the better choice. Upgrading from an Eagle Fisheasy B&W 128x64pix 75w rms to one of the above so I'm not fishng blind anymore !!!! Most fishing will be done in 20-35 mts of water.

Never used either mate so cant give you first hand experience, however, I do know of about 4 people who have various Navman units (mostly the higher end, large screen multi-units that do everything from GPS to Sounder to fuel etc, but all of them have had problems with one bit or the other not working now and then, so not sure if Navman is the most reliable brand for marine electronics. However, I am sure there are also lots of other Navman users with no problem?

Last Cast,

there has been a quite a few reports of the lower end navmans having dramas as well. Lowrance or Garmin seem to be the in the right price and reliablity range.

lowrance is a very good unit and it has the capability for the navionics chart.

furuno 620 is about the same price but has no mapping, but has a better sonar.

but out of the 2 i'd go a lowrance.. can't complain with my 527
