I have looked pretty extensively at the Furuno and Lowrance units. I disregarded Navman almost immediately as their display was not even in the ball park of the other two. I ended up going with the Lowrance, but I have been told that Furuno is better and that is what I am looking at next.
They all have the same features, 90% of which you will never use. IMHO go with the one that has the best and biggest display. If you can get to a large boat shop and see them all lined up side by side, that can really help.

IF money is no issue then take a look at some of the JRC and furuno commercial gear!

There is no "best". Plotters all do the same thing. It is just an electronic chart display. What you need to check out is the card that goes in the unit. I run a C80 with Navionics & that seems to be fine. Prior to the C80 I had a Ray 760 with a CMap. It was also good.
If money is not an issue, top line Raymarine or Furuno are quality products. Are you going to overlay radar or temp graphs? Engine data? How big is the boat? Perhaps you will need two displays. Go to the US boating sites & see what can be done.

1. Sorry, rather an obscure question without any definitive answer.

I think Peterbo3 is right, you need to find out what card for your fishing area is best.
I'm still tossing up for offshore Sunshine Coast+Bris, (hards, B-banks, Cal wide, Tempest) but it looks like Navionics from other threads on Ausfish,
so therefore I need to look at units that support navionics. Furuno does not.
I did hear that c-map max is coming out with a updated map with much improved detail of above area????
BUT as you said if $$$$ is no object then just ask for the dearest one and I'm sure you will be happy.
I would ;D

peterbo3 id dead on. If you wan tht ebest buy Raymarine. Alot of the Furuno stuff is old technology and will be superseded in a few years, as well as being extremely bulky.
I am also looking at a new gps and i found the navionics are not detailed enough (i have physically seen) around the offshore reefs north of moreton, so looks like C-map is the go.
The only real option other than furuno with c-map is Seiwa and from what I'm told make a fairly good product.
cheers

big dan,
just checking, from all accounts from this site & phoning a few stores in Bris, they say navionics is the best.
sounds like i need to go & see for myself.

The new Furuno Navnet 3D will set the new benchmark for combo units but it wont be that long till they all play catch up. The 3D system will be at Sanctuary Cove in May to have a play with but check out the Navnet 3D website. If money is no object then I would wait and go with one of them.
Cheers
