Had a crack at the whiting on poppers again today. The wind made it very difficult for me and the whiting. Lots of missed hits , but scored a few the best going 42cm. Also a fair few small ones and the mandatory bream and small trevs as bycatch. They are still very skinny at the moment the 42 going just over 500grams. Ben

Thanks Ben for the length and weight, yes they are skinny on average should be 600 gr for that size even at this time of year. cheers Wayne.

Yes Ben i find the relative size and weight ratio very interesting, we have three main rivers in my area and weights can vary greatly between the 3.
As an example your 42 cm just over 500gr fish against one i caught in a river that holds fat fish went 40cm and 580 gr, it appears to depend on quantity and quality of feed in each river.
Hope all that wasn't to boring for you Ben but i fish competitivly for this species and find this very interesting. cheers Wayne.

More whiting brilliance. What do you gurus find are the best locations to weave your popper magic on Sillago ciliata? I'm guessing shallow flats with lots of yabby holes is the go? What sort of water depth is ideal? And is there any specific retrieves that seem to produce more bent rod action?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
