I have been thinking about upgrading my ultra light combo and tonight had a bit of a look though Bcf.
What are peoples thoughts on the following.
Shimano Stradic F1 1000 2/270, 4/140, 6/110 (lbs/yds) $190 7lbs of drag
Shimano Raider Finesse Bream 7'2" 2-4kg (3-12g cast)$90
I want to use it for plastics and be able to actually cast some of these light little buggers. Aiming at Flatties, bream, whiting. and was thinking 4-6lb braid.
Would the 2500 stradic f1 (14lbs of drag) be better with more line and a slightly lager spool ?
Note: I tried the Sol/Tierra but didnt like the sharp edge on the spool and thought the stradic felt tighter.

Thats a good setup there. The Stardic 1000 will be lite enough to cast these small placcies and lures id run 4 or 6lb crystal firline on it great stuff.
the Raider rods are VERY well Priced for such a great built rod. btw did the raider come down to $90 with it being on special for 20% off?
cheers reece

Came down to 90 after the usual Mo vs anaconda vs all sports etc etc. I bought a barra raider for my Tierra BC and it cost me 90 as well
I have only previously used 10lb fireline and found that to be like wire. is it better in the 4-6lb ?

G'day
I have the raider that you speak of.... brilliant rod. I have mine matched with a 2000 Sol.
Very happy with the rod, and at $90.............. get 2!

it is a nice combo just the raider personally for me is not a ultra light, because i find it a bit stiffer if you want to go something about 10 bucks cheaper i would select the starlo stix squidgy spin light it is a bit more flexible. i do like the raiders but i don't find them that flexible.

Team PLATINUM - id have to disagree there. :-/
Stay with the shimano Raiders they are far more better built than the starlo stix.
and the finesse bream rod is perfect.

I would look at 2lb crystal fireline. It is plenty strong enough. Ten pound and over in fireline is rubbish

I usually fish a Stradic 2500 on a Rack Raider 6'8" 3-5kg. It's good but too heavy for what you'd like it for.
I've briefly used a Sol on a Raider 2-4kg and it's a great set-up for very light plastics. It's what I'd be getting.
Also, definately no heavier than 6lb Fireline. 4lb would be sufficient I think.

Well for once it seems that I have picked out a perfect combo for what I want to use it for. Might finally be able to get onto this "whiting on poppers" craze.
the Stradic comes with 2 spools so I'll fill one with 4 and one with 6lb crystal fireline.
Now the final choice is between the 1000 stradic or the 2500 stradic ???

1000 for whiting and bream. Keep it nice and light.
