I have a transome mounted airmar P66 transducer that looks to me like it needs to have the back dropped down a bit. plus the fact that I loose bottom at speed :-/

It's all plastic and I was wondering if someone knows how to "unlock it" to adjust the angle?? I realy don't want to monkey with it and break the retchid thing.

cheers

G'day

Should have come with a plastic shim, play with this and also height.

I have one on a 12' tinny..... had trouble initially but ended up having it angled slightly forward, and quite deep.

Gday 2Rods

I too, and many others have been and still have the same problem. The plastic wedge will change the angle quite a lot but it does not have any fine adjustment capabilities unless you grind off the lugs on its face which I have not yet tried, or now of anyone who has. At the moment I have used some stainless washers to pack out the top of the bracket to get a better angle. Haven't as yet tried it so cant be of much more help. So far I have found that the closer to the keel the better the reading. In fact the best place of all so far is on the keel right behind the leg but I don’t like it there.

Jeremy.

Hi there,
I think I have one of these, it came with the Furuno FCV-585...to get to the mounting screws that hold it onto the transom the head unit needs to swivel up. It needs to be struck firmly with your palm from underneath and it will swivel up. When I did it - it felt and sounded like it snapped, but it was fine, the clips that hold it in it's operational position have a real "SNAP" when they let go.

Good Luck

Hi 2rods, I've mounted this transducer on two of my boats and I use the one Furuno 620 sounder on both boats. I found the sounder works perfectly on the large fibreglass boat without using the shim but on my new Blue Fin 4m. tinny I ordered it with a transducer bracket and they have positioned the bracket right behind a strake which is a no no I know find that I am getting a good reading at low speed but it will lose signal at speed due to turbulance and this may be your problem rather than the angle of the tranny. I tried using the shim and without the shim but it made no differance. As jru29 says give the bottom of the tranny a firm hit upwards with the palm of your hand, you will think you have broken it but I have done this to my tranny about ten times with no ill affect whilst mucking around with it.

G'day

As stated, give it a hit to easily access the mounting holes.

It's meant to do this, more so to lessen any damage from direct impacts

Attached are some photos of my transducer installation on a Barcrusher 560C. Seems to work really well.

it should cross the hull at 45 degreese and be below the hull at 10mm i slight angle down about 3 degreese

from the pic yours has the adjusting shim in place. remove that an it will tilt forward (perhaps a bit much) and will also drop it deeper into the water. Generally deeper and forward is better than the converse.

If it ends up to far fwd may need to pack or grind shim as suggested above.

good luck

I am just about to fit one to our boat. The instructions say to fit it to the staboard side. Does anyone know why?

G'day

They say starboard side, generally because of the rotation of the prop, will be less chance of turbulence on the stbd side.

Men I will post some pictures when I get back to Aus....the poor boat has been sitting in the shed for the last month:-[ :-[

It is deep enough but not angled enough I think...plus the goodwin doesn't have strakes on the hull so no issues there...

I would tend to agree with this, my boat traps more air than yours and I had to triple the recommended angle and drop it a long way also, in short I threw the book away. Don't like these transducers, not like any I have yet dealt with in the past, you may need to go as far as 2/3 of what I had to do?

This thread finished abruptly. 2rods, did you ever get the tranny working at speed? FNQ, any photos?

I ran my new 620 with this tranny this morning for the first time at speed. The signal starts to break at 10 knots and by 22 knots it's gone completely. It is mounted exactly as my previous Lowrance transducer. Excellent on the troll though.

My option is to go up or down and I'm thinking of dropping it around 10mm.
