as the title stats been looking at sounders and the guy down at the marine said that this sounder is pretty much wat i was looking for, any advice good or bad would be appreciated. sorry our main objective is to be able to read from like the shallow reefs say hutchys and shallow tempest to the depths of deeptempest plus we no of a couple of wrecks that we need the sounder to pick up in about 80ms of water as the wreck is only about 40ft long we need it to be pretty good. any advice on other sounders that could do the same is appreciated as well.

thanks

I've only heard good things about them, but the sounder isn't cheap and their clarity isn't even comparable to other brands.

something with a higher resolution will be easier to look at on the screen while displaying a clearer image of what your looking at. ie. Lowrance lms-527.

in the end it all come down to learning how to read your sounder. don't just buy teh first thing that someone has said is the best, do your homework and look around at other units for the same price. also remember that the displays simulator will be nothing like using the sounder in "real life situations'.

how much is the furuno 620 sounder your looking at and does it come with the transducer for the price.

Hi Skusto, The 620 is a great sounder I take the boat out sometimes, turn it on lay back on the seat with a packet of Jaffers or popcorn and just look at the beautiful big screen and don't even bother to fish, just like going to the movies. Seriously I bought mine from Fishon and recieved great advice and service from Pat. The 620 was just under $1000 with ducer on my doorstep in five days. The 620 is a very easy unit to use and you don't have to do a uni course to understand the manual and if you want to know anything more just email Pat. Just be careful with the installation of the transducer. I have two boats and use the one 620 sounder on both boats but have a transducer and power cable and another mounting bracket on the other. The sounder works perfectly on the big boat but on my new 4m. Blue Fin tinny they installed the tranny bracket right behind a strake on the hull and I get interference at speed but that's not the fault of the sounder.

Mate from Townsville has a 620 and we have yet to learn how to make it do split screen zoom. We even read the book, with a beer or three. Do the 620s do that?

Skusto, have a look at the black and white furono that is about 1/3 the price..... may suit you? and you can use the remaining $$ for, well, whatever takes your fancy

Dont worry about the resolution thing the pixel count is down in comparison to the lowrance ,but having used both units the softwares ability to transfer what its reading to the screen the furuno is way superior in my opinion . I f you are worried about pixel count get the fcv 585 its bigger and has a better pixel count ,go to the sounder pictures above and have a scan through there it will show you what a furuno can do ,i have had mine for 18 months now and it is way better than the lowrance units i have had . Also FISHON is the place to buy pat provides a great service there are many happy customers on this site ....matt

John. if you want to mount it on the transom go the 600 if you going a in hull.. go the 1kw.. unless they have come out with a new 1kw for the transom mount you wount get the performance out of the current transom 1kw at speed.

I got the 1kw M260 for my 585;)

As someone mentioned earlier, pixels counts dont mean jack. I have a koden CVS-832 which only has 320x240 from memory and i see things just as well if not better than most sounders with a higher pixel count. I'd be going the colour Furuno, not the monochrome.

I have a Furuno 620 and am not sure it's setup or configured correctly. Anyone know where/who in Brisbane are the Furuno experts to help with this?

I've got a 620 and am more than happy with the performance. Someone mentioned the 1 kw transducer but I'm not sure that the 620 is compatible with it. Other than screen size, I thought the transducer options was one of the main differences between the 620 and the 585. If you look at the currency exchange site someone mentioned, a word of caution. I use Paypal for overseas transactions and they will give you a gobbledegook story of how the conversion rate is worked. I always seem to pay more than the ec site says. Good fishing.

I am no expert on sounders but the 620 is what i opted to fit and I could not be happier. I opted for a thru hull transducer. Easy to use and nice screen. All the people I spoke to stated that for the money is was the best unit to get. Trymax marine at Capalaba Know there stuff and sell Different Brands. I could not afford 585 but would of been nice.

the 600w transducer will be effective to around the 200m mark , after that a bit iffy:-/, the 1KW t-hull transducer a tad more expensive but with the 585 screen there is no better fishfinder available the public.

as for screen size the 585 is colossal and the resolution is alot better than the 620 as well.

the furuno 620 is one of the best sounders you can buy for that kind of money...

with this sounder forget all about the pixel count as it gives such a good image of what is actually under the boat you almost forget about the clarity of the unit.

once you set it up correctlly you will be amazed on how good it actually is.
