Hi mate
A long heavy rod, I've told you what I use a number of times, if you are targeting big ones. Otherwise, just normal tailor gear will do for large schoolies. fairly heavy line 20 - 30 lb.
Big hooks and big baits. ie fillets of whiting, tailor or mullet, or whole fish. A whole whiting would be good. beach worms are also good for small ones.
Patience is the key to it all, aswell as timing.

The blank i chose for my rod is very heavy and will cast a fillet bait a hundered metres very easily.

Long rod with an Alvey.
I use a Pacific Composite surf heavy and a 6.5 inch alvey.
10kg line is fine off the beach.
You need a strong long rod to cast heavy sinkers with big slab baits.

Tom,
Jew can appear on any of those beaches.
Its all about whatt the beach formations are like,Fishing at night, preferably around the full or new moon and puting in the time.
FRESH bait is always a big help too.

Hey Tom, If you get to the beach a bit early try and catch your own bait (whiting, bream (they do have to be legal size)) before you start jew fishing or if your game do it while your fishing to keep you awake and busy. ;)
Cheers, Mick.

My gear of preference off the beach is a MT 8144 blank teamed up with a 650 Alvey star drag - 10kg mono ( I prefer the Platypus Pretest in clear). Be prepared to get some BIG stingrays and shovellies, as well as sharks, as they like the same sort of baits as big jewies. But dont give up because of them, as I found the catch ratio is about 20 vermin to every decent jewie. If you can get some legal Luderick, they are the 'gun' jewie bait both fillets and live, but I havent found a reliable supply of em up here. After a while you will be able to 'smell' if there are jewies around, especially on calm nights, as they exude a distinctive odour, and once you have learnt to pick it, it really gets the adrenaline flowing. Welcome to the ultimate game of patience and perserverance.
Cheers

Hey tom
I use a Snyder homemade on a FT5162, it is 14' (sandspike) and can cast a whole tailor and big sinker a bloody mile. Heavy line and a good drag are important. Be patient, the higher you aim the longer you wait ahahahah. Do a bit of research as some beaches produce much better than others, especially the ones with annual tailor runs.
cheers
Owen
