I have a 7' Silstar spinning rod 10-15 kg fitted with a Daiwa regal plus 5000BRi spinning reel with a spool free clutch system and infinite anti reverse,
this is spooled with 20lb braid and 30lb mono shogun leader.
The reel was about $170 and is a very nice reel, I am hoping to use this outfit with the nuclear chooks for some offshore snapper, do you think this set up is about right?
Cheers Ryan.

uhmm might be too heavy - I am getting a Shimano Alivio FA5000 or 10000 for sp's for Kingfish and Cobia off the rocks with 20lb braid and a 10-12kg stick ( GRAPHITE ) and off the beach for Jews on a bigger surf rod
Cheers Tom

Ryan,
Sounds like you have a combo that can be used - but really mate, you have to tell us more information. How far off shore? My bay outfits catch fish offshore - to a fashion, but once I am in deeper water, say 30Mtrs + it become a new ball game and I need much more line capacity for a start.

Hi Scalem,
I envisage for the most part offshore depths will be 30m minimum, mostly 40-60 meters maximum, is there any further info you require?
Cheers Ryan.

Give it a go. It will do the job and if you like that soprt of fishing you can invest in a more specific outfit

Looking at the depth of the spool do you think you will get 300 mtrs of the braid of your choice on there? If not, you would be more suited to the 30mtr depth. If your spool is not still reasonably full by the time your plastic reaches bottom, it will be very hard to get it there unless you use heavier jigheads. But the idea is to use as light a jighead as possible and still get to the bottom.

You should get enough braid on that outfit. Like Horse said, take it out and try it, you will soon know if it suits or not. It all depends on what your catching as to whether it will be alright or not. Should be ok for starters.
