Well,

That's a relief!

Came home Thursday with a nice 75cm barra and a 40cm jack in the esky. Released a 38cm jack, a ~60cm Queenie a couple of small GT's and the ubiquitous 'cuda that inhabit my fishing hole.

The barra was trolled up on a small Trollcraft in Gold/Green 'dazzler' pattern. These lures consistently out-perform any of my 'trophy' lures - they used to be called Producers and I stumbled onto them a few years ago when I picked one up walking along some rocks and tried it on my next trip for spectacular results resulting in in its bib being smashed to pieces. They have such a tight wiggle and troll at a depth of around 2m. My mates at the 'Warehouse' told me they use the shallow diving ones instead of bombers when they're in really snaggy country as at half the price, they can afford to lose a couple to the timber.

The jacks and queenie were picked up on unweighted live poddies and produced sweet surface smashes that got the adrenalin flowing each time they got hit. Oh yeah, there was a reef shark somewhere there as well.

Cheers

You're a b@stard Richie,

Wish I was there. I can hear Shady Camp calling from here...

It's on my todo list for next year.

Cheers Scott - I feel your pain. Went down below Aplins the night before last and bumped into Kev. We watched the full moon rising for not even a touch but, geez the weather was beaut - calm and cloudless.

Kev trundled off 'round 7:30 but I just couldn't leave, it was so pleasant. Chucked on a black, 4cm R2S popper to cast around, keeping an eye on the livie lines when suddenly, it went OFF. I got smashed 3 times on the popper for one hookup and straightened trebles, then the unweighted livie got smashed in the same spot right next to the bank. Another hit on the popper then the weighted, bigger poddie got a run.

So it was the 1st half hour of the rising tide when it finally gets to the top of the river - about a 2 hour lapse.

Missed everything but came home grinning like a chesire cat - I can't recall barra 'boofing' like that in the river for a while. Went back last night. Not a thing. No boofs, no runs, nothing.

I guess the barra Gods haven't quite forgiven me yet...

Last night was windy so now I'm chasing the idea that on windier arvos, the fish will bite better during daylight when the Sun can warm the cooling effects of the wind. On windless or warm arvos, the fish may tend to bite more after dark, especially if it coincides with a rising tide... Will be testing this theory over the next few weeks.

Cheers
