heyy all,

just wondering if anyone could supply me with a pic of slimy mackerel, not sure what they are yet, just became a keen offshore fisherman and was also wondering about any bait for them?

Bait Jigs are prob. the most effective way to catch them(If there a bit quiet, I also put a small piece of squid/pillie on the bait jig hooks) - When your jigging at bait grounds, you'll also pick up Yakka's, which are also a dynamite bait.

Hey Croser, I use bait jigs with peeled Prawn. Slimy Mackeral are hard fighter on 2lb line.

Legal Minimum Length

No legal length set

Bag Limit

None

Type of Tackle

Use line between 2 to 4kg.

A rod around 1.8m is ideal for both jetty, rock and boat fishing.

Hook Selection

No.8 Beak-Nickel "Holdfast" nylon snelled hooks that come pre packed are ideal. Mackerel have small,soft mouths !

Baits Used

Small pieces of Fish Flesh, Prawn and Squid. Also small lures like Juro Shiners.

Berley Mix

They usually repond to any form of berley.

Rigs Used

Rig No. 1
Rig 1, a double dropper paternoster rig, is perfect for fishing off jetties, and intended for use when the mackerel are feeding on the bottom. The purpose of the spring sinker is to hold a berley mix in place, and slowly disperse it within the vicinity of your hooks. When cast, take any slack out of the main line to ensure that if a bite occurs, your rod tip will bend.
