View Full Version : Longtail on Good Friday
Show me the fish

Went fishing for longtails yesterday with Dad and brother in my brothers boat. Caught my first longtail for the year - only a small one, about 95cm & 8.5kg but it still put up a great fight. It was the first time i used my new egrell S10 rod so a great way to test it out.
The fish was caught north of Peel Is and still had plenty of energy so was released after a few photos.
Egrell S10 rod: $470
30pd PE braid: $65
Showing up older brother in his boat: $priceless ;)

Nice LT Mate, Did it take a plastic or metal lure?
We chased a few schools around yesterday but could not get a hookup.
They must have been eating very small baitfish.
Cheers Brent

Thats an expensive piece of gear mate, is it worth it because i am looking at a
good quality spin out fit and i need to know what price range i am looking at,
I will be chasing pelagics just like that but probably the macreal more so than the
tuna,
Cheers anyways,
P.S. could you please pm me on a good website to buy gear from or were you got
yours from

What are the components of the Egrell rods.
Are they built with Fuji runners and Fuji reel seats....???
I have only ever seen one in the flesh and cannot remember.
P.S Nice fish and great photos.

I had a small school chasing baitfish about 5 metres from my boat on thurs. (just north of Peel) The baitfish were only about 50mm long. I chased them for a while and didnt get a hit either. I had both a hard plastic and a metal lures out.
Show me the fish - very well done, im jealous!

First longy i've seen on here this year . Good on ya. Still haven't got one yet this year myself. Looks like a late season run might be on the cards. Thanks for posting. Longys are one of my favourite fish to catch for sure weather it be plastics, slugs or bait. Congrats Ben

The pic is of a tigerfish. They're found in africa and have teeth that would make a croc jealous.

G'day All,
Aquarius: Longtail was caught with a 5inch Bass Assassin on a 10g TT jighead. We were chasing them for 2 hours before we hooked the fish. They were in small scattered schools and spooked easily & most fled before we could creep close enough to cast. But persistance paid off and a school surfaced within casting distance & bingo.
Abbot: I am very happy with the egrell, only used it once & caught a good fish. Joel is right, aviator pic is of a tiger fish, i caught a couple of small ones on a trip to Africa last year - great fun, they jump clear out of the water when hooked. The one in the pic is from an email and must have been about 1.5m long!
Cobia kid: yeah its expensive but should last me a lifetime. Have a look at www.egrell.com.au (http://www.egrell.com.au) for eric's range of rods. I got my rod from Fishhead at Victoria point, they have great gear and offer great advice.
Pistol P: captain stabin is right, best to check out egrell.com.au or email eric, he could explain it better than I.

Ha, I have n't seena pic of a tigerhfish in ages! Being an ex-Zimbo I remember chasing tiger's in Lake Kariba in the North of Zimbabwe. Penn or Abu baitcasters with 15lb mono and wire trace!! Absolute beasts when you finally get one hooked on, have to sharpen the hooks on a wetstone- mouths are very bony.
Good on ya Show Me.....

Well done kris, first longtail for the season. Hopefully there will be as many around as last season. I don't think Lanks was being polite I think the Fishwhisperer has lost his mojo. 1 nil up on the rest of us, goal this season is to beat Harold's pb and be the record holder.
We went there about lunch time after getting a call from Lanks to rub it in that you guys had caught one but we could only find one (not interested). No birds, no schools, nothing. Next friday is looking the goods, hopefully I will get one on the board then.

Show me the fish.
You have just tested the S10 in the same way that Eric tests them except he does it with the drag hard on.
That is a great fish not only for your first but just the fact that you landed a Long tail.
I love the Egrells because Ericc actually knows what he is talking about. I have a range of Egrells from the S10 to Game rods and they are all built with the same love and attention that you would expect from a "True Professional".
