Yep Best To Get Some One Look At The Pump And Flush It Out As Well.

They Or You Could, By Removing The Thermostat Cover And Using Water And Compressed Air Going In From The Bottom Of The Leg To Get Some Bubbles Going To Lift That Sand And Grit Out Your Motor.

Let The Motor Fill With Water Then Squirt The Air Through And It Will Rush Out The Thermostat Housing.

Sure Your Going To Get Wet If You Do It Yourself But You Need To Clear It Out.

I'd be dropping the leg and inspecting that water pump, all part of the normal serice routine anyway.
The parts are pretty cheap in comparison to a cylinder head reco.
