Matt (MattChew) and myself met up with Tim Morgan today for a bream session in the nerang river in the team humminbird stratos,We drifted around the pontoons, rockwalls and rockbars flicking Sp's,Small hardbodies and small metal vibe's,Between the 3 of us we caught around 15-20 bream and By-catch including flathead, cod and whiting. It was an awesome session and the stratos was an absolute weapon with the 150hp etec on the back.

cheers tim :)

Tim,

Thnaks for the report and well done getting the chance to fish with a guy of Tim's calibre.

Have been meaning to wander down that way, particularly with the wind as it has been making the bay uncomfortable.

Where are the best ramps to access the bulk of the fishing down there?

Nice photos. I have been out in the water when Tim has driven by in that boat - it's pretty hard to miss! Would make it hard to keep his spots secret as it really stands out.

Would have been a great day on the water.

Yeah Tim, how did ya manage to get a ride;D ;D I guess we may never know. One thing I do know, is Tim (not you George) is a top bloke and it was a blast to go fishing with such an accomplished angler and a funny, relaxed bloke. I definitely learnt more about Bream fishing in that 8 hours than I did all last year, especially knowing when to move on and try somewhere else!!! It was quite surreal to start the day casting like a amateur, being short of boat hulls and pontoons and finishing the day casting right on the money and catching fish .. I never knew you could get right in between tiny little spaces like that!!!! I hope I don't kill too many brain cells and forget anything before I go out again. A great day Tim and always good to fish with you mate.

Brent- Mate we will have to hit the canals in the poly soon for a bream session

Guys,

With bream fishing being so easy, there's plenty of opportunity for you guys to cash in - the ABT Super Series on the Gold Coast this year in August will pay $10,000 cash for first place!

Best thing is that bottle-tops (cast and retrieved) are a permissible technique.

Actually, I lie ... the best thing is that you can depart after you've won the cash and know that nearly all of the prizemoney is derived from the other anglers' entry fees.

It'd be like taking money straight from their wallets!

BREAM events are open to anyone and all the info is at www.bream.com.au (http://www.bream.com.au) (mods:pls remove if inappropriate). Obviously the easiest way to cash since the baby bonus ... see ya there.

nah you can have the bream....hopefully one day they realise that what marlin fishing is all about and they put some money into those tournaments (like over seas). Enjoy your vermin, i wont fight you for them.

Not sure If i could bother chasing estuary carp for 10K, They'd probably frown at the weigh in when they have all been pounded with bat.

corby-winding in the bream mustnt be the exciting part- seen it on TV, the fish is in the boat before it knows which way is down. 1 marlin for the day- RED HOT!! how big and what line class?

to a few of you guys who think its stupid catching bream on lures u probebly cant catch em on lures anyway! with 60 or more people at each event there are thousands of people who tourniment fish sooo 3-4 against thousands of people....
the reason why there is so much in bream, bass and barra is because anyone can do it! not everybody can go chase marlin 2-3 times a week.
it is great fun with some great prize money and other prizes.
seriously to catch bream in a shut down bite or 60+ other guys fish the same tourniment on the water and to rise ontop is not luck. going down to 2lb fluro straight through is sometimes essential to catching them or to stay ontop.

trying to stop a big bream busting you of in the rocks or pilons with 2lb is hard!
steve has set up a great sport open to anybody even if you dont have boat you can go as a non boater and learn heps of your boater and you may even score someone like tim the bream( ooops he got eliminated from afc bream he is now tim the bass man morgan;D:P)
they even have summer series, easter classic and mini bucks events and for around $100 for a team of 2 to fish its a great day on the water.
dont knock it untill you try it

They setup the rules of these comps in such a way but that blokes like me, honest alvey owners who cast mullet gut and cleanup a good 100 of these things on a good nite cant compete. honestly some of the garlin butter smeared onto lures these days stinks a whole lot less than these rules that are stopin us baitos takn the cash
a good percentage of there daily food comes washed down the drains of canal home owners after poopy the dog has laid one, i dont know what feedin em plastic proves cause there is clearly nothin they turn there nose up at.
the guys who eat em are the real winners, 10k would be fair comensation for eatin somethn stuffed with a nugget
you havent caught em on lures have you:-/

Perhaps people fish for bream because they actually enjoy it. Strange that their enjoyment can tick other people off though. What a crazy world we live in.
Well done boys. looks like you had a blast.

Guys, a bit of respect is called for here.

Dont you know who Tim the Bream and Steve Morgan are? Is this the sort of reputation we want ausfish to have among serious fishos in the comp industry?

I dont fish for bream either, but I respect those who do. Slagging off at comps could be discussed in another thread, instead of hijacking this one.

the gecko, when i saw that pic of tim the bream and timmy d doing the thumbs up i couldnt get the printer on fast enough, i will like to turn it into the monthly calender, id say they will in the june or july for when the bream come on strong, ive got a nice pic of a jack you caught last yr i think you could be movember so yes mate we all know who they are and i do my bit to increase awareness that ausfish has some real stars.

;D ;D

the gecko.....what do you determine as a "Serious fisho" or one in the comp industry? As i see it these guys get paid to do what they do- good on them for that, one day some one may pay me to travel the country catching marlin- but i doubt it....but just because they get the media attention doesnt make them the only serious fisho's around, nor the only who fish tournaments.

and to the bream nut- you would be surprised how easy it is to get into marlin fishing mate, just gotta join a club and make yourself known. The older (and much richer) guys who own the big boats are always looking for keen crew who know what they are doing.

Nic

I'm all for the comps, bream are so easy for most people to access, and it's great that you don't need a boat or even much entry fee money to fish with a pro and learn a thing or two.

And having it televised -- even if the OTT commentary isn't to the liking of we serious fishos -- is great for attracting more non-fishers and young people to the sport. Seeing as the percentage of rec fishers is in decline nationally, and the average age of anglers is rising, I'm all for initiatives that promote fishing to a younger audience.

The stats are pretty scary... in a 2001 Australian Sports Commission report on Australians' participation in sports and physical activities, they found that fishing ranked 15th -- behind activities like jogging, bushwalking and netball. Back in 1991, fishing ranked 4th!

So yeah -- go the bream comps!

if I stop fishing for the vermin of the sea (bream), could you give me instructions on how to fillet a marlin?? I enjoy fishing for a feed.
As for the marlin fishing..what sort of boat do you have jeffo? I know I prefer to choose when I take my boat out and can do what I want when I want..not real keen on the idea of parsiting off someone else to take me fishing.

pin head, i now have a 3.75m quintrex dart (next summer hope to get a marlin from it). 6 months ago i sold my 5m sea jay, before that i had a 4.1m quitrex dory and before that had a 445 hainnes and before that i had a 3.9 stacer....So not all my fishing is "parasiting" as you call it...i like to call it going out with my mates- and my boss (who owns a 36 blackwatch)!!

Nic- while your stats can seam negative, i like to look at thse stats much differently....maybe the same amount of people are fishing but more have taken up sports for fitness and there for fighting australias growing obesity problem!!:)

also pin head-I cant show you how to fillet a marlin but would be happy to show you how to fillet the numerous mahi mahi, wahoo, cobia and tuna you catch as by catch.;)

Sorry boys,
I'm gunna have to get in on this one.
Firstly Tim, top stuff well done on having a ball and letting all the boys on this site know about it.
As for Jeffo and the "Unit", WTF!!! Here come the highjackers!!!!
Boys you guys are kidding yourselves. All a bloke has done is get on and share a yarn about how he went fishing with a personality and you blokes have to go on and hijack his post. I'm not sure what goes on in your pea sized brains and over inflated ego's that made you wanna give your opinion. (Unit I know just can't help himself folks)
I'm here to say keep your opinions to yourself.
Unit, I don't know what fan club you are raving on about mate (previous post). If anyone was a fan of a bloke who talks his SH!T up more than you I feel sorry for em. It must be tough for you having to learn to cast with a spinstick rather than 80lb handline. "Dominating the bay"..................Dude, you are dominating a dreamworld, wake up champ.

"Mind your own buisness or you will follow him",matey, that is what you should have done in this instance and just minded your own buisness.
Jeffo: A little surprised reading this from you. Try some subtlety next time.
I apologise in advance to all the folk out there reading this that think big Rich is laying it on a bit thick, but I am just sick of sitting up here and reading this sort of rot. It galls me that a thread has gone down this path cause of a few comments which in reality should have just been saved for themselves.
And if the mods think I should go for a spell so be it, if this is the direction the forum is taking I'm out, I reckon alot of others out there feel the same way.

Richie

PS: Yep, fair to say I'm pissed. Bring it on!

I know the day I was out with Tim Morgan..started raining..it was in his previous boat..he gave it a squirt to get back to the ramp quickly..it sure did move along..I cannot remember what it was now.
Basskid...who cares what anyone's boat cost them..that is their business.
Also remember , some people are sponsored to drive the boat..and good luck to them..costs them nothing for the boat.
