x135 works very well for me. Surprised at the price you quoted as that's what I paid 2 years ago and the $A is about 40% stronger AND it's on "old" model. It would be excellent value around $350-$400. Maybe you should look at colour or take the advice to buy O/S.

most importers will always raise their prices when the dollar falls, but I'm yet to see one advertise a price drop due to the strong aussie dollar, and they wonder why people buy from overseas ::)

having never used a x135 I'm not knocking them, but it seems like a lot of $$ for a mono single freq sounder

I've see this happen with Oakley sunglasses... When the dollar fell to 52c to the US$ oakleys raised their prices by 12%. when the dollar went back up past 72c (and probably to do with a new range released at the time) their prices are now the lowest i've ever seen them in 8 years.

but looking at the bigger picture... until fuel drops below 90c/L i doubt we will ever see cheaper prices on products in australia...

I thought for that sort of money you should be able to get a colour sounder. I personally like the lowrance units and its probably a good model but colour is so much better ( not many B&W TV's around anymore).
I too, like to back the local guy but I have a cut off point at 15%. That is I allow 15% more from a local before I go looking elsewhere and I think that is more than fair.

To buy the sounder I wanted from the Local guy is unavailable to me, To buy on line in Australia this sounder was going to cost me $420.00 inc postage, The same item purchased in the States is $257.00 inc postage, even if I did have a local guy enough is enough, it has saved me $163.00, That sort of money you are talking about Plugger would just about get you a Colour/Combo in the States, Just some food for thought, Cheers Whitto
