Yep, talked to John the owner the day liqudators were stocktaking. BCF were opening one next to his store at Underwood, so he felt time he got out. He couldn't compete with their buying power. Pity, John was a top bloke.

It's too late to get out when the liquidators are stocktaking! you are all ready gone:(

My mate and I did a tackle shop crawl from Sundown Marine to the Gold Coast in Dec 2006, we called in to Tackle World Tingalpa as they had what I thought was a opening celebration happening, the Morgans where there doing demos and the BBQ was firing, how things can change in one year.
It was also the fist time I had been into Fish Head at Redland Bay, Duncan has gone the other way [up] to bigger and better premices at Victoria Point.;D

Hi

A great shame to see not one but two independents go from the Southside. Does that only leave Tackle warehouse and Mossops (Viccy point is a bit far for me, but I might have to start driving down there). I always found the Tingalpa store to be super helpful and while their range wasn't as big as BCF, it was much more focussed and generally didn't have as much of the lower quality stuff the BCF have.

As a side note, what is the story with tackle world generally - are they some sort of franchise. I thought that would have helped their buying power.

There is another independant at Sunnybank, Pro catch Fishing Tackle.
Cnr McCullough & Woodsiana St Sunnybank QLD 4109 ph: (07) 3345 1211

Only a small store, but the guy seems to know his stuff. He also does in house rod repairs. He replaced one of the guides on a rod of mine for $15 which I thought was a good price, and the quality of work was a1 :)

Don't forget Budds Bait and Tackle at Cleveland. They have been providing early opening bait and tackle for years in their present location. Always helpful, and stock a fair range to suit local requirements. Also have a good repair service and Budd's custom Rods are famous around the Bay.

Whichway, there is another Mossops in the Gabba still, just in Balaclava St.
I believe it's high time we all supported the little guys more. I for one can't see the attraction of the larger stores and don't find their prices all that much better, except when stuff is on sale & then the only stuff cheap IMHO is the cr*p no-one buys. Mossops at the Gabba are as good as the old Mossops many of our dad's/grandad's would have shopped at years ago at Annerely. I was in there over Xmas and the guys were more than helpful especially seeing as I was on crutches with a broken foot. They couldn't do enough for me A+++
If we don't get in and support the little guys now, we won't have a choice and will only be able to buy the sh*t that the 2 bigger stores and possibly Anaconda want us to buy. I for one like to be able to purchase aussie based tackle for aussie based fishing....soon when the big stores have it all to themselves, the only tackle available will be out of China or the USA>:(

Whichway, the buying power of BCF and Tackle World would be no different, the problem I believe is in the tacle industry as a whole, since Xmas the retail shops have been dead, even BCF.

PS: In the Southern states the 'A Sport' shops and Rebel [same Co] are getting out of fishing tackle alltogether :2thumbsup:

Harvey Norman sold Rebel to Archer Capital about a year ago. Archer Capital also own @mart All Sports (and a number of other businesses).
