dissapointing reels

:( It`s still the reel that cost me more than any other.
Talking about the first model Calcutta 700. At the time of their release, I thought they were the ducks, and the smaller models probably were.
I was out in the boat one day, hooked something large, and the handle started
to turn backwards.
Got home to find that the reel only had a one way bearing for anti reverse, no dog and ratchet for backup.
They have added the dog to later models.
Bought that reel just before the B model came out and I paid $430.00 for it.
Incidently, I paid $350.00 for a tld 15 about the same time.

most reels do only have a "one way bearing" for anti reverse these days, the ratchet never has had anything to do with anti reverse, and a "dog" system is used when no infinite anti reverse bearing is used.

The last 2 Shimano reels I purchased have both a one way roller clutch bearing and an anti reverse ratchet and pawl(or dog)
These are Torium 20 and Tekota 500. Both proving to be good reels.

I`m not sure what ratchet you are refering to when you say it has nothing to do with anti reverse, unless you meant instant anti reverse., because the ratchet is what the dog comes to rest on.

the ratchet referrs to the gizmo that makes a noise when line if taken out against the drag, sometimes called a "clicker" in brochures, the little pawl and spring type of anti reverse I guess is on some models with "infinite" anti reverse as well, but not too common these days I would think, but who knows!

Aaahhhh! you were refering to the "strike alarm"
