Headed to the pine to flick some lures for a quick half hour session. Got there about 11 and the water was getting pretty high. Was throwing a Rapala Glass Shad and pulled in a nice buck muddie. Almost lost a finger trying to grab him before he escaped on the waters edge and could only watch as he disappeared.
Had a few more casts in the same area and landed a nice 55cm flathead. Good fight on light gear and took me for a bit of a run. Had no pliers so thumb gripped him and lost a bit of bark off the thumb but worth it.

Good effort mate. Make sure you clean and apply antiseptic to the wound mate - can get VERY nasty within a few days if you don't.

Yeah lizzards tend to shake their heads too. Don't know what it is about them being dragged into a boat and held up. Though I'd rather one of those than a muddie chomping on my thimb. Gutsy move to try and grab that. I go crabbing and can handle them ok, but it would have been coming in claws first. And though it may not have taken a finger off, it sure would have made it resemble a twistie.
