Headed out for a fish early sunday morning with mate coggaz to the NW side of peel to try for a few squire.

Conditions were pretty good and we started drifting at sun up. It didn't take long for a fair few boats to start working the area so we tried up the top of peel to get away from the boat traffic.

This seemed to work well as we started getting some good hits. Using plastics and bait we managed to get a good feed and with the best bite period being around 7am. The water clarity was down and we found that more natural colours in the plastics were the order of the day.

It was my first trip out with the new Furuno 620 and I am more than happy with it, another satisfied customer. ;D

We decided to pull the pin at 10:30 but not before a visit from the DPI. They quized us on a lot of things including our catch and proceeded to write down a few notes as we answered their questions about where, when, what and how we'd caught the fish. Can't help but think they are getting more info to go against rec. and pro fishos in relation to the green zones.

Biggest squire went 66cm and the spangled went 51cm. There was also a few sharks around nailing a few small fish as they were hooked.

I reckon they're just trying to get some info so they can catch some fish themselves! If it were me, I'd only answer questions that are legit to assess if I legally caught the fish, with short answers. No need to give them more info than they need to do their job.

joeT, i dont understant why you posted that comment???. i consider myself a good fisherman full-stop. i thought this site was to help and share information, not to hide and put people down for wanting to be a better FISHERMAN..... i have learnt alot from this site because of the good, great open-mindeness from other fisherman like myself on this site..

Mate, if you re-read my post you will see I was not talking about you at all. My comments were directed at the DPI officers who stopped him to get extra info.

legsy - It depends on whats happening with the tide as to the depths we fish. I like getting right up into the shallows when the tide is high. But I think at places like peel and mud etc its more important to fish away from the crowds and just continue to try things until you learn more about the area.

Captain stabin - I've got a 4.2m tinnie

Jate01 - I've only fished green a couple of times but mainly fish south of green cause I live down that way.

mate tell em you caught all your fish out in the middle of the trawl grounds away from all the structure and that they should protect these areas, probably do just as much good. buggers should get out and do some fishing themselves instead of using our hard earned fuel money to complete their surveys!
