Greetings!

Just had one of those trips! Not the good ones......the ones where you learn the hard way.

Went to fish off the rocks at low for the first few hours of the run in and approaching dark. Started at 5-30 on the rocks between Ballina and Lennox.

Took:
13'6'' 7 wrap Tailor rod + 6'' Alvey with 20lb.
10 ft bream/light spin rod with eggbeater and 14lb.
12ft gaff.

Bait: Prawns/Pillies/Mullet fillet.

Took 4 metal lures but no poppers and no wire.

Parked up, got changed and broke the zip on my fishing waistcoat! #$%^&*

Got to rocks. Guy there has 2 good choppers on.......poppers! Water too shallow for metals.

Stop of at my favourite little bream hole on the way to Spot X. Prawn on second cast with 10ft and 14lb gets a beauty on......keep his head up for a minute or so until he busts me off on a rock!

Spot X. Put metal on spin rod. Northerly so bad that metal is pulled to the surface by bow in line. Second cast a good chopper hits and is on. Rocks too high for gaff. Rod too light to swing him up. Try to run him onto the beach on a big wave.....almost make it... bust off. Lose metal.

Lose one 65g raider 5 minutes later.

Lose 6'' soft plastic 10 minutes later.

Go to pillies on the Tailor rod. 40lb leader and 3 ganged 4/0s. Use 4 ounce snapper lead on a running rig to try to cope with the wind and swell.

Bust off on this and the next three rigs.

Go to mullet strip on the same rig. Good fish! Runs hard and deep for 15-20 seconds. Bitten off!

Two or three more bust offs. Good fish! Runs hard in a circle and stays deep. Bitten off after 1 minute.

Bream start to rip the bait up. Swap to 1/0 on 14lb leader. 2 bust offs.

Swell increasing and getting dark. Go home.

What to take tomorow? Hmmmmm..... Can't win every time.

I like the area between ballina and Lennox, sometimes I think it's pretty hard with the gaff on the rocks there.

Mate some times its never easy...still, could have been worse....could have been no fish at all. Sounds like a arvo that will have you going back for more.

Keep working on it mate!
At least you were getting bites so the fish are there.
Now you've just got to work on landing them!
Ah well, we're all in that boat at some time or another......................::)
Cheers and enjoy!:)

Greetings all!

Just a little follow on.

Went out on Tuesday, just before last light. Fished the rocks at Sharpe's. There was plenty of white water, nobody else around, a red sunset and the Queen Victoria sailing on the horizon.

Didn't fish long but caught a 1.5kg chopper . First fish ever on a popper and first fish ever on a home-made lure.

Life was sweet!
