Arranged to meet Ross and Bev (ColacGirl) for a camp at Crusoe early Sat morn but due to the deckie being called out Friday night, the packing didn't get done, so we got a late start. Wanted to see if the stacer 3.95 and the 25 black anchor would get on the plane, with 2 adults, 2 kids, dog and all gear. She did, but only just, and with little freeboard, we took a bit of water.....had to give it a try though. Arrived there about 9, to find Ross and Bev were already out fishing..........bummer, I missed the early tailor run.
Got the Black Wolf out of it's bag........bugger..........no fly sheet!::) Up she went in 10 secs and we tied some ropes to the frame, pegged it down, and hoped for the best.
Tried an hour at the tip of Kalinga but couldn't lose a bait, moved to the tip of Crusoe and lost every bait within 2 secs.........to butter bream ::)
Moved 3 more times but all I could find were butter bream. Feeling a bit crook from my meds, I returned to camp after a couple of hours. Fished from the bank for a 48cm lizard and 6 bream, when Ross and Bev returned with a couple of nice tailor that looked to be about 45cm.
Arvo, the southerly change came through and you should've seen the boats running for anchorage;D The tent never budged, although the gazebo looked like it was gonna take off a couple of times :o
Sun morning I decided to fish from the bank and took an early dip when the rod and holder were pulled over and the rod zipped through the water. With 6lb line, I never stood a chance but at least I got the rod back. Fished through till lunch but wherever I moved I was plagued by butter bream. Despite that, I managed another 7 keeper bream (all returned) and numerous smaller. Went through nearly a kilo of peeled prawn, 2 mullet fillets and 4 kilo of pillies in about 10 hrs fishing, the butter bream were in plague proportions!
Ross and Bev had been out again and returned with a few more nice tailor and a sole.........My deckie got to the fish before my camera did and the lazy bugger tried to save on washing up by eating it straight from the pan ;D
