Hi everyone, im looking at purchasing a new boat and i have found a few Polycraft baost that i like and i was after abit more info.
Has anyone ever owned/owns/ been in one etc? What is your opinion of them compared to Aluminium boats?
How easy was it to mount your minn kota on the front? Add any modifications to your boat like speakers, sounder etc?
Has anyone had or heard any bad or good reports about them at all?

I've owned a 530 and a tuff tender (along with glass boats and lotsa tinnies over the years)
Generally speaking they ride better than a tinny of the same size which is partly due to the extra weight and partly due to the way the boat will flex to absorb shock. The downside to this is that they require more power compared to a similar sized tinny (every boat is a compromise in one way or another)
How easy making mods is will depend largely on which model you get and what the mods are that you require.
Fitting a Minnkota is easy enough on most models as you can bolt your quick release bracket straight to the poly alhtough the tuff tender needs mods as the bow section is not flat. If the boat is foam filled you need to specify that you're fitting a minnkota up front when you order so they can fit the mount prior to filling it with foam ;) If it's a model with Bow rails you'd probably want them modified too (same as any other boat)
Re other mods it will be a lot easier if you advise which model you're looking at as the requirements between say a tiller steer and a console model for adding mods are completely different.

Then I can help you herbie, Minn-kota is a snap to mount, I have a puck style quick release which i have spaced up with washers to bring the motor level and it works a charm. Modification is the easiest thing ever and most accesories can be mounted with self tappers (before anyone says it yes they are secure enough) as they are screwed in to 10-12 mm of polyethylene. Sounder is no issue nor is wiring as there are panels where the fuel tank (optional) can be located and there is heaps of space here to conceal wiring. heres a few snaps of my mods. Both front and rear decks were done by me in around 4-6 hours each.

The stereo is a gme GR9040 and as well as the standard cd/mp3 playback will accept an SD card or a usb stick so it can play in the vertical position with no issue.
Thanks for the comments on the boat, its what I call a work in progress, always trying different things in search of the perfect fishing rig.
Cheers

Oh very nice boat mate.
One thing i didn't understand is how is the minn kota mounted? bolted through the side or screws?
How do you get the nuts on the bolts if its inside the expansion/compressor chamber?

theres a fairly wide lip under the gunwhale so on mine the some bolts go right through (uses the hole that once had the bow rail bolted through it) and the other corners are just screwed into the poly with 12g S/S screws. the poly skins are 10-12mm thick and pretty dense so it hold screws very well. there use to be a pic on the Polycraft website where they demo this by screwing 2 pieces of poly together and then lift a car using the screwed together pieces as a link in the chain( i just went looking for it but its no longer there).
