Headed out yesterday on "Baitrunner" offshore from Double Island with seven regulars on board including Frank the fishing machine and 87 year old Ken Smith from Gympie who was doing his 200th trip on "Baitrunner".

Outside the bar the conditions were nearly a glass out and we proceeded to some marks out wide selected by Tony the operator of 'baitrunner" and Craig (zoot) the skipper.

First mark we pulled some Hussar, pearlies and moses pearch and then moved about 2 miles to the next mark which produced a bag out on Hussar to 50cm two red Emperor to 9kg and mixture of parrot, moses pearch and pearlies.

The moved south about 3 miles where Craig spotted a good show on the sounder. This spot produced some good snapper to 6kg, a rare Robinson's Sea Bream which was landed by old Ken, moari cod and the monster Red Emperor which was hooked by old Ken on his $40 ugly stick and after he was exhausted he handed the line to Frank the fishing machine who after a mighty struggle on the little ugly stick cranked up the big Red which strained the scales at just over 18kg.

Ken had a mighty good day to celebrate his 200th trip but he was buggered at the end.

Thanks to Tony and Craig for a memorable trip.

Cheers
Barry

Kitty Cat and Two tins

It is close to the biggest red caught on "Baitrunner" and there were about five small boats in the vicinity at the time on this well known ground east of the bar.

Indy,
Frank and I do about 20 trips per year on "Baitrunner" which is operated by Tony Stewart. The current charge is $200 which includes all gear, food and drinks. We stay overnight at the luxury Rainbow Beach Hilton for $25 per head which can accommodate 10 people.

Cheers
Barry

Good on you Ken for hooking up a monster and having a go.
Age shall not weary you but your bloody rod would have been bending.
And good on you Frank for not loosing it and boating it for the young fella.
Sounds like a charter for the future.

I forgot to mention that the line was only 30lb platypus mono rigged to a 70lb paternoster leader and the red had obviously won a few previous battles as it had a couple of hooks right down it throat which had traces of braid on them.

Hey Barry,

Loved reading your report mate. They are awesome reds. Looks like the weather was great too. Getting that red on 30lb is amazing. Well done to all on board. Great read.

Craig.

Barry thanks for posting mate. Congrats to Ken and Franky on a truely great catch. There's not to many you see over that 18kg mark and I'm not sure if I will ever beat my oldmans 18.1kg beast from a couple years back but I have alot of years left to try. I not only think Frank is a the fishing machine but more so a fish attracter.

Regards,
Greg

Greg,
Frank has caught some good fish over the past year with Ty and Nathan on "Reefking", on "Baitrunner" and on "Alexander", We are planning a trip out to the shelf NE of Bundaberg in 4 weeks on the weapon "Alexander". Frank is looking over my shoulder as I type this reply and says hello to you and your old man.
Cheers

Hey Frank,

You look great in the Sunday Mail... What next - a movie deal????

Guest appearances in Bush and Beach and Fishing Monthly are on the cards and Frank has ordered his own TShirts with the red on the back with the words The Fishing Machine printed on it which he will wear to all the upcoming fishing comps.

Rex Hunt sent me a PM this morning to see if Frank would do a special on catching Red Emperor but as his agent I told Rexy that Frank swears too much for TV and doesn't like all the bullshit.

Cheers
Barry
