Friday morning we flew to Townsville to meet up with some friends and step aboard SV Charters. We headed out for about 3 hours and pulled up in 40m of water over a rubble bottom. Out of 16 people fishing, my father in law and I were the only two that brought our own gear. On the way out there was a lot of doubt as to the capabilities of my s10 with 35lb line considering the average was 80-100lb overheads and handlines. There were also some giggles at the idea of me using plastics.

We dropped down and straight away a couple of small nannys came up. After about 5 mins my placcy was hit and I landed a 90cm gold spot trevor. Quick photo and back in. As I looked over, the father in law was landing a 65-70cm jack. (he went in the esky) We fished through the night and landed a large assortment including tuna , cobia, sharks and both types of nannys.

A good storm hit us about 3 am so we got a coulple of ours sleep. Back out with the plastics in the morning and rewarded with the spaniard in the photo (15kg).

All in all it was a great trip and the s10 stood up to it with no problems. I was only bricked once by what I assume was a good trout. The guys from SV charters were great and I would recommend them.

Although I released my fish the rest of the guys still had over 120 good fish to share between them.

Sounds like a good trip. But you would've missed a lot of the action during the storm, the reds really go off in the dark. The SV guys are an excellent operation, though they are more expensive than the rest, the quality of service and all round experience is second to none.

I knew your gear would be up to the task, no worries at all, its just those swimming power saws that come out to play which you would've had trouble with.

Did you find out where they get their 'pinkies' from at all?

Sounds like a good trip, with some quality fish thrown in. Is that a hyper certate?

Sorry Scott, didn't ask about the pinkies, never saw/used them.

Marty, the outfit was an S10 with a 3000 Hyper custom, 35lb saltiga line and 40lb sunline FC100 leader. The reel stood up very well but I am going to get a power knob for it. I ended up with a few blisters

Some nice fish there Tetsuo!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the charter cost you?

The charter cost just under four hundred, but I won $60 back from the guys for the best pelagic. I thought it was pretty good value.

Ozbee, we used trevally, mack tuna and mackeral for bait bait the Reds are just slow at the moment apparrently:'(

Reds go better in the cooler months I've been told by the guys on SV.

Dan, you can get more info on SV from their website:

The price has gone up a bit since I went last year, but it still doesn't stop it from being, I would say from my experience so far (haven't tried them all yet), the best charter in Townsville, and not just because of the fishing, the whole service is great IMHO.
