Been struggling to to get out on the water for a decent fish so since the weather looked ok decide to head out with a mate. Normally I fish the Pine, but this time decided to launch at Pinkenba (about 5am) and go out through the mouth of the river to drop a couple of pots to the east of the port. We probably should have bitten the bullet and gone over to Mud, but it was a little uncomfortable in our tinny and decided instead to head over to the shelter of St Helena.

I wanted to have my first try at a hb- the little eco gear that had embarrassed me previously :-[ - whilst my mate had his first go on sp's.

Plastics won the day with my mate getting a small cod on the southern cardinal and a plate sized squire on the eastern side. I reverted to plastics after the squire and we both had a couple of other hits but didn't manage any hookups.

Grabbed the pots, one legal buck and lots of undersized, and came back home via the boat passage at around lunch time.

Mightn't had been the best fishing (for me), but had a glorious day on the water, particularly after the tide changed.

Hey Lapras, I was out between Fisherman Island and St Helena this morning as well, didnt get to much. Only a few under size whiting on the drift, trolled the rock wall for a while for two under size tailor and when I pulled the pots the were 2 under size bucks and one claw! :-[ Tried all over the place between F.I. and St Helena looking for whiting, but for a spot that has been very consistant for me in the past, it was very disappointing. Did you see the trawler in there this morning - don't know what he was up to.:-/

Go Gecko,

No, didn't see the trawler, we spent most of our time to the south and the east.

As for crabs, the pots near F.I. is where we got the keeper and lots of undersized bucks, two pots closer to St Helena did not even get touched.

What does your rig look like? We were in a white 14' with forward controls and a blue canopy. I thought there would be a few people on the water and was on the lookout for Ausfish stickers all day.

Hope you have better luck next time,

Dave

Just cause there are no ausfish stickers on a boat doesn't mean they aren't an ausfisher, so ya never know who you might be talking to. :D

True enough!!

And it's hard to tell who your mates really are as well - After coming home fishless myself I find this photo in my inbox titled "The least I could do". Some mate! But good use of the squire!
