Scored 1/2 a dozen whiting today on poppers. Had to wait for some clean water to push in before they came on the chew, and even then they only fed for half an hour. Got my biggest one so far on a popper @ 37. Ben

Nice work Ben, what waterway were you fishing? What popper did the damage? We tried fishing the dirty water line for no result today, glad you had a bit more success.
Joel
Where did you fish ?
The water is looking pretty filthy up here on the sunny coast at the moment

I found they don't hit the popper that hard but they sure chase it aggressively. I haven't caught many though.

Fishing northern nsw. Clear Bubble pop 45 and small rios prawn. Cheif , usually they are very agressive and keep hitting it until they find a hook. Just gotta keep it moving! Often have 4 or 5 bustling eachother out of the way to eat it. Ben

Why do they hit the popper? Is it just the splash and noise or is it imitating something they would naturally eat?

They believe it imitates a prawn skipping across the surface of the water.

Whitting on poppers sounds like a great fun. (Shane) Wheelchairguy and i also fish the northen rivers aswell so we will give it a bash next trip i think. great catch mate.
cheers TiNTiN
Nice work Blooey, its a lot of fun when they;re on the chew.
TiNTiN, give the weedbeds opposite the fingal ramp a go early in the morning before all the boat traffic puts them off. otherwise there is a small inlet next to the golf clubhouse carpark that is full of yabby holes. we've given it a go in there with a few hits but no hook ups...definitely something was keen but had trouble hooking up. get into it. its heaps of fun. the surecatch poppers are a good start as they are cheap and effective although the hooks are a bit average. i've upraded mine with SS splits and Owner hooks. Got some good flathead, lots of bream and a few whiting on them so far in a few attempts.
Cheers Roo

Tintin it is great fun mate. If your in a boat you could probably hedge your bets and have a bait draging along behind you and casting poppers out in front. Ben
