Headed up to Burrum Heads for the annual christmas trip with family and friends. And to test the new boat out....
Didnt get off to a good start, when we arrived on the 22nd it was pissing down rain:thumbsdown: , then were told on the radio to prepare for a cyclone:huh: ........but we thought we'd try our luck in the rain and go fish the top of the tide with some plastics....got a few moses and a few grunter...then right on top of the tide, my uncle picked up a 65cm fingermark, and 5 minutes later i reeled in a 62cm fingermark......great start (apart from the rain & wind). Dad afew friends and I all fished pretty much everyday in the wind and rain, but were very dissapointed......we tryed every plastic, every lure, every bait...every spot that we knew there was fish and got nothing aprt from a few bream, cod, whiting, moses perch.....apart from new years eve.....Dad, Steven, My Brother and Myself decided we would drift over a few sandbanks to get a feed of flatties...first time we drifeted over it we picked up a nice 45 and 55cm flathead, drifted over it a few more times, but got nothing...convinced dad for one more drift and my little brother picked up a nice 63cm flathead:grin:
Sad to report no mangrove jack this year:sad:
Fished the esplanade street boat ramp a few mornings at 4:30, but only managed to get all undersize bream, cod, sweetlip, moses perch and those bloddy happy moments:rifle:
There is sh*t loads of weed in the river and theres piles of it on the beaches and its now starting to stink
Also put the pots in to hopefully get some crabs...........crabbing was quite unusual this year....got marys the whole time excpet for christmas day (2 nice muddies) and new years eve and new years day (3 nice muddies both days) out of the 4 pots we had out.

Was a bit of a dissapointing holiday, but it was still good to relax at the beach, well hopefully do better next year;D

Sounds like you had a good time anyway.

I wouldn't be complaining with a couple of Fingermark like those two. Well done.

Top fish guys. To do that well in those condition, you blokes must really know what you 're doing and more importantly enjoy doing it. Heard off a mate there's good finger mark in the burrum, nice to see the proof.

cheers Ethan
