Around ten years ago, a workmate who owed me a reasonable sum of money gave me a quantity of fishing gear in lieu as he was leaving Brisbane. Due to circumstances, I never got around to using any of it but am keen to put it to use now that i'm getting back into fishing. Any info on the quality of the gear, and potential uses for it would be greatly appreciated. I've listed it below.

Gary Howard 2-4kg baitcaster rod with cork grips

Abu Garcia Ambassedeur 1600C IAR overhead reel - the reel is loaded with what appears to be braid, i wouldn't have a clue as the line size. I recall with some effort that i think this reel was a match with the above rod, any ideas on use, would it be suitable for jacks?

Abu Garcia Black Max4 Cardinal threadline reel

Shimano Symetre Aero 4000 threadline reel

Shimano Bantam50 magnum overhead reel

I also have two rods i picked up a few years back, any suggestions to reels to match these.

Shimano Technium 7'6 Snapper Special, one piece.

8'6 custom built whiting rod I jagged as a lucky door prize at a fishing weekend run by Sunfish, was made by Warren Steptoe and other staff at that weekend.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Gary Howard rod would be a lovely piece of kit.
If you don't want it let me know and I'll buy it off you.
I'm not sure about the rest of it.

Cheers.

Thanks for the interest mate, but at the moment i'm just looking to see if it would be suitable to use for jacks (in particular married with the 1600C), or what other fishing i could do with it. I've never use dan overhead so would like to give it a go. Having said that, if i decide to part, i'll PM you and give first refusal. Were you just after the rod itself, or with the reel as well?

Speaking of Gary Howard rods. I have an old one here I bought in the early nineties, from the good old woody point tackle shop. It's caught my pb Flathead, and Macs in the bay. The guides are still reasonable, and the reel seat is all good. It's easily 22 yrs old. He makes quality rods.

That's a well used stick there, flattie. I like your fishing creed too. ;D

the ABU is a piece of rubbish, i'll take it off your hands for $5 ::);D;D;D seriously, it is a classic & i would hang on to it, learn to use & look after it or just service it & put it somewhere that you can just look at it & fiddle with occasionally...
the old bantams were good reels as well, nice & tough.

Thanks for the kind offer DR, i've heard the abu's aren't much chop ::) Mate, i'm keen to put it to good use, i don't see any point in having something of quality and letting it rot on a shelf. I've been trawling through the site for threads re upkeep of gear, looking to learn as much as i can and give all this gear a good workout. I'm matching the Abu to the GH rod and taking them up the Pine River sat. morning for a bit of a flick.

Just having a squizz through the forum to find and learn some knots for attaching lures to braid.

Am probably going to match the Cardinal reel to the Technium, and probably give the Bantam a twirl with the GH rod at some stage. Funds are a little too scarce at the moment to look at investing in a couple extra rods.

Any ideas on a reel to suit the Whiting rod, i'd be looking to invest around the $80 mark?
