had a fish after the rally in the river. Got a few livies from Luggage Pt and set a couple of baits. First run the herring was bitten in half. Maybe a small shark. Second run hooked up, but alas a stingray. Third run hit very hard a fast and hooked up! Would the second line in at warp speed and dumped the anchor as this fish is running hard. Started the outboard and headed out to some deeper water where I could fight it clear of any structure. Calmed down a bit and things looked like they were under control. After about 10-12 minutes, I gaffed my first threadie. Went 122 cm and 12.5 kg.
There was another falla there casting lures who watched the fight from a safe distance and took some photos. I gave him my email address and phone number and hope he sends the photos soon. Also hope he gets his first threadie soon.
Few other guys turned up after that and were also casting lures. No more runs and no other threadies caught thhat I saw.
PS. big thanks to Matt (you know who you are) who gave me a few tips about where when how etc the previous weekend.

Hi Jeremy,
Don't you love heading out to target a particular species and getting exactly what you were after!
Well executed!

Dave - used about 1m of 40 lb Black Majic leader to a 4/0 Mustad big gun and swivel at the other end in a running sinker arrangement.
Chief - no I have a 15' yellow centre console.
I plan to go back there this week to try to get one on a lure!

Jeremy,
Excellent fish on 6kg. A little way to go to beat Hazel's Bundy fish but will make the 8kg record more real. What sort of lure do you intend chasing them with? Softie or hard body.
Jeff.

here is another...this one is 8.14 on 3 kg. Got this one on my first bait with in half an hour today, and didn't put another bait out after that. Threw poppers, 6" soft plastic shad, prawn star and even some metals for no success today. Will try the Jackal Mask next time.
Matt - yes your spot (thanks!)

Another good Threadie there JEREMEY!! You're making a habit of it!
Btw, were you working the SP's while anchored or we you setting them down similiar to your bait?

T1, I don't have a 'leccy', so I anchor up to work an area. The live baits were cast out with sinker and trace etc and I worked the lures from the anchored boat while the other line was out.
Jeremy
I don't have a leccy either and i find it less successful working an SP from an anchored position. Wonder if you fished the SP out the back of the boat like a dead/live bait whether it would have a similiar effect to the bait ie let it sit there and waft around?

Hey guys
I post this by way of sharing some info i came across
I noticed in the Fin Fish draft plan that threadies are a bit like barra, the males change sex at 115cm, so the big ones it appears are breeding females.
Keep it in mind, as we all know how good the flatty fishing got when we stopped taking the big breeders.
.
Top effort Jeremy, !!!
look at the tail on that thing, no wonder the go hard.
Cheers.
