THE LURE OF HOLIDAY FUN”

In support of Pine Rivers Shire Council's Super Holidays Activities For Teenagers program (S.H.A.F.T.), Pine Rivers Fish Management Association volunteers, Gary Sturdy and Shayne Dumma recently obtained certification as Level One Angling Education Instructors.

The certificate training program is offered to a small number of Queensland anglers each year by Sunfish and D.P.I. Qld. The course is run by highly experienced trainers and child education specialists and it is designed to give anglers involved in junior fishing days, the skills to better impart knowledge in a safe and fun environment.

Councillor David Dwyer, a long term supporter of the SHAFT program, stated," I commend the efforts of the P.R.F.M.A. and the Petrie Lions who work together with the Council to make these SHAFT program Junior Angling days a reality."

"Every child deserves the opportunity to become involved in this healthy outdoor pursuit, whether they come from a family with a fishing background or not and this program will teach them the skills to be successful and responsible anglers."

"At the last SHAFT angling Event, after a mornings tuition with the PRFMA instructors, the 11 junior participants finished off a great day by catching over 40 fish, in a little over an hour, followed by lunch and drinks supplied by the Petrie Lions. I think the next event will fill very quickly."

For information on the next SHAFT program, go to the Pine Rivers Council website, www.pinerivers.qld.gov.au or call 3480 6666. The SHAFT Program features other exciting and fun activities such as Learning to Surf, Cable Skiing and Cheer Leading.

Upcoming Junior Fishing Days in the January School Holidays will be followed closely by the Petrie Lion’s Family Fishing Event held on Australia Day at Lake Kurwongbah. Last year was a great success, with mums, dads and kids having an enjoyable day out. For further information contact Joan Matthews on 3205 8674.

P.R.F.M.A. not only assists junior anglers, it is also responsible for the fish stocking of North Pine Dam and with support from Pine Rivers Shire Council, D.P.I. and the Federal Government’s Recreational Fishing Grant, the ongoing program to clear feral fish from Lake Kurwongbah and the transformation of this impoundment into Queensland’s newest fishing destination. If you would like to assist, email the group on info@prfma.com.au . PRFMA meets on the first Wednesday of every month at North Pine Dam.

on behalf of P.R.F.M.A...... cheers Phill

Thanks Phill, how good is Kingtin's photographic ability. At full screen size it looks awesome. If you've got teenagers living in Pine rivers it is a cheap way to keep the kids occupied over the holidays and dont forget the Lions Australia Day Family Fishing Event.
