hi all,
I took the small oportunity to have a fish before i move into my new house yesterday. i took a non ausfisho mate Adam.left home at 4 am, yep about half an hour too late, and launched from raby bay. a nice run across the bay but just too light already. went through the slop on the bar at about 530, you could tell there had been a breeze on it for the night, but still managable for my 475 centre console tinnie. stopped for some slimies only to find my fish few marks to be dead for bait, so kept moving up to boat rock. bait was alive up there, but no slimies only yakkas. it was slow going in the boat as there was a bit of breeze early, i probably should have just bypassed the livies to get the early snapper.
Any way arrived at first mark, 70m, with absolute huge ball of bait so i had to have a drop. I started with a 5 ball and immediately new i was to light. first drop not a touch... After the first drift it wasn't looking good, the drift was nearly dead west. not good for these bumps, but youve got to persist. really change your drift start positiion, as the lines were more racing away as we were being held up by the stiff southerly breeze. Any way this was too good a show so i had another drift, with a 7 ball. down goes the livies. one fish one livie lost. and mine was only a pearly, but not a bad size. there wasn't the best showing of fish on this bait so i moved along.
Fished up the reef about another 200m and found better shows of snapper. We both dropped down pillies and boated squire to 45cm, yep nothing big was coming in this trip. i changed back to livies and managed a squire about 50cm and a small just legal pearlie.
funny, the breeze started dropping off and adam was not looking healthy. Poor bugger is use to the ride of his 25ft bertram not a tin can, soft...
We headed back in with 5 squire and 2 pearlies. not a real productive day but on the water atleast. One real Shitter of the trip was at the end. we put crab pots out for the weekend and yep you guessed it, they had been checked again. the pricks couldn't even do the pots back up. Lately if we haven't checked them by 5am they're done. Sorry no pics as not a camera taken and they were cleaned at a mates house with the boat in redlands with tank water.
Hope you all have a safe and merry christmas
