Was going mad:o at not being able to go out fishing with all this wind about so decided to go down to the Pin and put a few pots out. Boy this is not holiday season and the pots were worse than pimples on an adolescents face. Only managed 6 legals. went and had an explore around the mouth of the bar and fished the south side near the corner of a sandy beach. Ended up with 3 juvenile flathead. Plenty of little terns bombing the water though. Went across to Swan bay to have a look as I have never been there before. I saw a buoy in the water and a sign on a bank upstream from it. Is the area behind these two markers the start of the non fishing area for Swan Bay? The water was around 40 to 50 foot deep there. Looked very fishy but not for me:(. Had a look around upstream and couldn't find the old Squire Island? Has this Island washed away? Went back to the Bedrooms and walked over to the beach side. Was surprised to see how the sand has moved closer to the inshore side. Couldn't see much beach feature except for a little hole directly in front. There used to be some amazing gutters there the last few years but with all this consistent wind it certainly has knocked it around. ended up picking the pots up and scarpering back before the wind got up any further. Managed to get 10 hours on the new Yammy 60 4 stroker at last. Has taken me nearly 10 weeks. Not sure it is revving out enough. It is getting 5300 revs foe 33mph. Goes out of the hole fairly well and is certainly cheap on fuel :). Now to start paying for my first service. Any ideas how much I should be charged????? But then what price can you put on pleasure ;)

Hi Mate,

I know how your feeling, not being able to get out, because of the crappy forecasts of late , and to make matters worse I'm recovering from an operation so I'm confined to these chatboards.

Glad to hear you managed to score a few crabs, I'm hoping for a few sandies when I'm back on the water after xmas.

I had my first service of my new Yammy four stroke 25, done in September and Paid $180, so Iwould think yours would be about twice that amount or maybe a bit more.

Cheers
Scott

sharkymark,

the bouy and sign that you are referring to at swan bay IS the start of the no fish zone....it is also a NO GO zone for any boats...you cannot even drive in their for a look around.(apparently, found out first hand)....was down there in september drifting past the bouy for flatties, when i was pulling up the lines and checking ther live bait for the next drift, the tide had taken us about 30 metres inside this zone, and the harbo's where at curose and saw us in this zone and raced over...
when i told them what i was doing, they said "NO BOATS AT ALL" allowed in this zone for ANYTHING...was going to fine me but let me off with a warning!

Squire island has been gone for about 2 years, is just a few clumps of mud now and really needs a bouy on it because someone not familiar with the area could come a gutsa on it

Thanks whitingkiller. I spent an unbelievable night there during winter. Was so cold but zillions of mozzies. We had about 30 people sleeping on the island that night. Good to know that you cant go in to Swan bay; was tempted to have a bo peek. It looks so fishy around there. I saw a bit of a creek back from the sign. Are there any crabs or fish caught around there?

sharkymark,

swan bay is full of fish, not so much crabs...mainly bream, flathead, whiting and mullet...many years ago in my stupid teenage days, myself and a mate used one of those "square hooks" in their and loaded up with all kinds of fish.....i am sure the pro netters still give it a go.

Yes whiting killer have seen others ;) do the same thing in thier stupid years. I remember I pulled 66 bucks out of dohles rocks in 3 hours. I am much more conservation minded now. It is not an unlimited resource. In fact it is getting harder to get a feed of the bread and butter species than ever before. I imagine that it is full of fish but would like to know if you have fished outside in the deep area? Looked very fishy indeed.
