View Full Version : Torque?
Hi all.
Im looking at a new Ute. I cant really afford to buy the brand new common rail dual cabs atm.
So I'm looking at either a 3L turbo navara or 3L Hilux. I was stearing towards the Narava as it has 25 more KW than the Hilux. But on closer inspection the Hilux has more Torque. it produces 315Nm and the navara is at 314Nm. Does this simply mean the Hilux is geared down or has a longer stroke? 315Nm is alot of torque for only 85kw. and 85kw seems rather crappy for a turbo diesel. thoughts?

the 3L in the narvara is a piece of crap. the amount of times the grenade themselves is crazy. ive fitted a few of them in the last few months and at approx $8500 each id stay away. the torque difference will just be a better designed engine rather than stroke. im not sure on stroke differences between the two.
those torque figures are at the crank not at the wheels so gearing has nothing to do with it. the hilux will hold its value better than the navara aswell.
go with the hilux. personally i hate anything nissan, they are crap to work on and parts are to expensive
So your not a nissan fan I take it:)
So why or how can the Hilux put out so much more torque at the crank with so much less KW?
A mate of mine bought the navara str 3.0l diesel to tow his race car trailer ,he reckons he should of tested it out towing his trailer first cos it's a gutless piece of junk.He has now been using the work hilux in td for towing duties.Dan.........

mate i have a mazda bravo..its only a 2.5L TD (86kw and abotu 280Nm).i can tow my 18ft boat on the beach unloaded faily well but on the highway i can do it fully loaded with piss, food and all out camping gear very very easily.so the total weight is around 2tonnes..
the torque isnt even as high as those cars your talking about.and power (KW) in a turbo diesel as far as im concerned is not really worth lookign at so to speak.your buying a turbo diesel for its grunt (torque) not its power.
i have herd the same thing about navara's as all these people say.
and just for you interest (this is just a funny little story and doesnt prove that any car is better)my best mate owns a 3L td navara..when i first got my bravo we had a little drag of the lights and there was absolutely nothgin in it...so maybe he's a crap driver but i doubt there would be much in any of these viechles...

you have to be kidding, i have an 06 hilux and its the worse damn 4b i have ever owned, spends more time in the shop getting things replaced/fixed on the POS, go for a wonder through a toyota spare parts and have a good look see on how many gear boxes they have in stock on the shelf ready to go LOL, i would never own a shit box ( toyota) again, my father in law is a mechenic and he tried to steer me away from yodas, i should have lisened to him as most of his work is hilux and snoozers
LOL as for resale not worth a pinch of salt as the yodas are always 8 - 10 K more
my next 4b would be a landy....... even the lada would last longer than the lux
