soft plastics

I'm new to the whole soft plastic thing, i've only caught a pike on a yabby soft plastic..Does anyone have any pointers to what plastics work best... i know colours change from area to area..im just wondering if anyone has come along a plastic that is affective in most areas

You will no doubt get a heap of different opinions with this question. For me, by far and away the best are Softies soft plastics. Hard to get, but easily the best I have used. The rackgliders are the most popular, but I have had a lot of success with the Curl Tail Fish and 1.5" Single Tails as well.

I have caught fish on Squidgies as well. The only reason I have stopped buying them is they tend to be stuffed after one or two strikes. Whereas the Softies will catch multiple fish without the tails being bitten off. More expensive initially, but I have had some top sessions on a single Softie.

I happen to have some for sale in the Classifieds, but not giving them my vote for that reason. I just personally rate them highly.

Hey Mate,
It mostly comes down to commen sence, find the fish you are targeting research what they will be eating, buy the appropriate head and plastic and most importants make the plastics look like a real fish!!!! and ask the tackle stores around the place and you should get rewarded,

I would be mostly concerned about size. I dont find colours majorly important, just get something fairly natural to start with like browny green or something. the weight of your jighead is pretty important though, i usually opt for a fairly slow sink rate so i can work them slowly. As for styles.. there are a few main ones, like fish shaped one's.. paddle tailed grubs... wrigglers... and minnows. They all work, it just depends what your chasing. bass love paddled tail grubs however i tend to use fish shaped one's like shads and squidgy fish for flathead. 99% of them will catch you fish though lol so just get out and try them.....

I would have to say all the fish I've caught on the plastics the pumpkinseed 3" grub tail minnow would have to in front by a long shot.

I would have to say that its my favourite and seems to work when times are slow.

I'm the same as Neil. The fish i've cought on soft plastics have all been with the pumpkinseed 3" grub tail minnow with a 1/12 jig head. Its worked on flathead, bream and whiting. Hope that helps
