Hey all,
I am currently looking to add to my rod and reel selection.
Basically what I am looking for is a rod and reel for bream and flathead sp work around the $300 mark, willing to spend maybe a little more or hopefully less.
Currently I am using a penn pinpoint tournament 3-6kg with a shimano Symetre 1500FI.
I quite like the reel though i am experiencing some problems with line twist, and the rod is quite good, though I believe its a bit heavy for light plastic flicking (1/32 to 1/20 can get quite difficult). Basically, I will be keeping this set up for deeper sections for flattie, but i need something for structure.
Any suggestions, and how will it rate against my current set-up?
THanks,
Andrew

Your current setup sounds fine, but if you want to go shopping I would recommend a Team Diawa Sol 2500, and a Berkley dropshot IM6 2-4kg. That will come in just over your $300 budget, but is a nicely balanced outfit.

Bah i replied in another thread. If you are still looking at the Tcurves, Go for an extra light rod. The way the Xl's are designed is that they have a nice moderate action and the fish has basically ingested the bait before it hits that straining point. A slight lift and turn of the reel is all that is needed to hook up.
I actually can feel every pebble on the bottom with my loomis though. Completely different feel to it.
I'd be inclined to spend a little more on your rod. Maybe buy a loomis gl2 for 280. Throw your symetre? or similar on it with some nice 6 pd fireline. Your rod is going to be your main factor. You want to feel all enquiries. Then save save save and get a daiwa sol. Theres your rod for sp's and the like for a lifetime. Don't be shy to spend on your rod. Your drag is gonna have to be reasonable on your reel but that should be ample.
I'm thinking i can't sell it bloke.. sorry. Buy a loomis though. You will never regret it from the moment you first cast it. And no matter how you break it. I'ts $150 to get it replaced for a brand new one. For life. This is what i run if it helps any.
7" Shimano Tcurve XL 2-4 kg. Twin power 1000 usually loaded with 4 pd sometimes 6 and matching fluoro leader. Thats the light sp work covered.
6"6 Shimano Tcurve L 2-5kg, Daiwa Capricorn 2000 loaded with 8 pd fireline, sometimes 6. matching flouro leader. This rod is a beast. Turns the big boys around.
and the crankbait rod i bought for lures and poppers. It has a twin power 2500 on it loaded with 10 pd platypus super braid. Matching leader.
The rest are gary howard fibreglass etc. But do get used from time to time. I'm a big fan of the Twin power reels. Great drags and smooth. But i really do believe that the sols are that little bit better. and one would match my new rod so well... ::);D
Hope that helps Click. Add me to msn or the like if you want a chat.

Cheers for the advise. I may have a look at the loomis as suggested, ive head some good things about em.
I got plenty of money, im just a cheapo, so it's all about weighing up where the extra money spent really doesn't justify the means.
All good with the t-curve mate, there are 1 million other rods out there :P
