Hi rod gurus
i have an old ugly stick that i acquired, its showing its age but is a nice little overhead rod. I was wanting an opinion on if it was a good quality rod that would be worth getting the bindings redone. I am unsure on its vintage but would love to know more, please tell me what you guys reckon
Cheers

IMO yes on both counts.

IMO - yes. Your rod is from 1996 and has the metallic under binding - the rod should have a gimbal butt and genuine Fuji guides.

Should match well with a TLD 25

Gidday DS

I have a similar Ugly Stick, bought it when I was 16, quite a while ago, good rod, run a TLD 25 on it, suspect it's a bit heavier than yours.

How many runners has it got? mine has 8 including the tip, a bloke at work restores rods ( keen fisho ), could get a price from him, guarantee will be better price than any tackle shop

Cheers

yo Bill
how goes it?
the ugly has 6 runners, i have put one of my 25's on it a few times but i need another reel for it so i am thinking tld20 is a better match and will broaden my spectrum of setups:freak: . sure ask the guy from work about it, does he do nice work?

Hey Brett

He put new runners on one of my Dad's rod's, ( 9' bream ) I was happy enough with it.

How far do you want to go with it? runners, flash binding? re-varnish maybe? let me know, I'll see what he comes up with.

Boy's and toys hey, can't have to many, missus thinks I'm nuts:-X

Mate, picked your rod up today and it's a heap of garbage.
Not worth the effort of cutting off the old bindings
I'll give ya $10 for it ;)
Failing that I'm busy. I'll have it ready in about 2011. It'll have to be field tested before I'll be happy ::)

Na, just kidding matey. She'll come up nnnnniiiiicccccccceeeeeeee :D

You are a game man giving your rod to Finga.I hope you specified exactly what colours you want the bindings to be.Might end up looking like a Ken Done painting.Apart from the colours the job will be A1.

Cheers Dazza

Gees rumours spread fast.
And what are you insinuating Dazza?? ::)

Fugles (that's what I've knick named it whilst she's here in dry dock) the ugly stick is going back to original and will (hopefully) be operational again late this week-end.

Are you coming down the the Southern Bay thingo??
I'll be good to catch up again and you might win a prize or seven :D

Oops sorry matey. :-[
I was talking about a 90kg blackie on Fuggles.
Poor little bugger would have a granny smith knot tied in the end her.
Lucky it's an original ugly and you can do that to them :D

Thanks for the invite. I really appreciate that.

I went to see old mate and he hasn't got a tip either.
One of the local tackle shops should be able to supply one.
If not I'll get one from the states.
Anyways we'll talk tomorrow morning :D

See you then
Scott :)

hi sandyd
Scott is away for the week i think so i will reply. its a tip for the ugly stik in chrome to match the other fuji runners, rare in australia, might have to go with a different one. think shakespeare stopped producing them now
Cheers

Thanks mate. How close you are.
I just had a weeks worth of work to try and do in a day :'(
The more I looked the more I saw wrong :P

Anyways....it's a stainless heavy boat tip similar to this (http://shop.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/Hialoy_2/BHT-Boat-Tops) (very close) or this (http://shop.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/Hialoy_2/RBHT-Boat-Tops)
Size 10 with stem size is 3.6mm
Originally they were Fugi's but the chances of getting a replacement would be slim.
Any good quality heavy braced stainless tip would do the trick nicely :D

Cheers then
Scott :)
