Mass G'Day Mate, definatedly go with the UHF, with uhf u at least have repeater's to boost your TX/RX as opposed to 27megs which requires position and the right conditions, hope this is a help Cheers Whitto

UHF.
There could/will be repeaters during your road trip. Certainly there will be activity on road channels such as 40 and 18 etc.
Some models offer more features than others.
What most forget is that a brilliant radio, with a crap antenna system, works as well as a crap radio!!

i agree uhf. i hooked my 27meg up for the first time in 4 years and there was not a soul on there! only a few people on side band!

you guys must not travel the roads much ehhhhhhhhh?????
i run both,,,, in general,,, more traffic is on and use uhf,,, and you get more info on 40 with the old truckies keeping you advised on where the camera's and accidents are,,,, but you still get a lot that use channel 8 as well,,, especially those who don't run uhf rigs,,,
i've been around 27 meg since it was first intro'ed ,,,, and for those of you who say that uhf gives better and FURTHER range,,,, think again,,, yep 27 meg does rely upon atmospheric conditions (skip) for longer broadcast,,, but try talking between the top end of bribie and the bottom on uhf,,, even on repeater stations,,, can't be done with continuous clarity
hence why i run both,,,,, mrs choppa can keep an eye out for me when she's home
and i have ""sorta"" got a 27 meg for sal mass,,,,,,,, Yaesu 101E,,,, may be a bit big for the 4b though,,,,, but its got a lot of channels,,,,,,,, lol

I have just bought a new truck and is only fitted with a tx4400 uhf rodio.
My other truck had both radios and i never turned the 27meg radio on in the last 5 years. As said nobody uses it any more.
Maybe if a couple of people are travelling togeather it might be used if they are not fitted with uhf.
The repeater stations on the uhf can be and are lifesavers at times.
The only trouble is with any radio these days are the cock heads that get on there and spoil it for those who want to use it properly.
The c/heads range in all different walks of life and some are from the trucking game which is dissapointing when we are so much in the picture on ther radio.
