Who got the best deal as far as insurance is concerned? Just realised I've been paying 0ver $600 a year when I could have got away with $418 a year to cover the haines for $26k.:'(
Anyone had any trouble with Nautiluss Marine or Club Marine as far as claims go.
Any other insurance companies that are worth looking into.
Cheers

stay away from club , crooks in my opinion .
do a search on here about your questions , there are numerous discussions on it and there are a few things to consider .

I only have a tinny but the best quote I got for a replacement package ($9K) was RACQ for approx $170. You can get a quick quote from there website as well.

Try Trident Insurance. They did a great deal on my boat and are underwritten by QBE.
Worth a look anyway.

Nautiluss can do that. They will either cover market value or agreed value with a marine valuers quote.
At $418 for $26K they seem about the least expensive of the 3 quotes I have gotten so far. No one has said anything bad against them yet.

Roll all your insurances into one package and it will be a hell of a lot cheaper i pay $88 with suncorp and insured for $30,000.00. All up we insure 2 cars, home, 2 lots of contents, boat, boat trailer, box trailer.
As i said the boat and trailer insurance is $88.
Cheers Rod....

Doesnt work that way with everyone. I've got everything with wesfarmers and for boat motor trailer accessories all listed seperately $611which includes GST and Govt stamp duty. Maybe what I save on the insurance on the houses they make up on the boat car and contents.
Think I might spend the day getting a few quotes on everything:'(

Mick,
make sure you try the 'usuals', racq and nrma.
get a quote from racq, then call nrma - they will beat an offer from racq (well at least they did for me just because i asked).
i don't have any other insurance with them.
cheers,
Mick

Thanks again Fellas
Got a quote from Suncorp this morning. Looks like I'll turn everything over to them.
Difference in premiums should pay for extra trip or two to the reef:D
Suncorp fair bit cheaper than NRMA also

price should not be the be all & end all of your decision-read the fine print.A lot of policies vary in what they will cover but most importantly is when you have to claim how quick will they pay out and if they will pay out without lots of grief.
remember traditionally insurance companies do not like to pay and will get out of it any way possible? there are some real horror stories out there.I would rather pay more on premiums knowing that if i have a claim there wont be a problem

I did a fair bit of research and ended up going with Nautilus. My boat is a 7 mtr Whittley with a 351 OMC inboard. Problem with the likes of Suncorp, Club etc was that they all wanted to see inboard inspection or survey reports. I couldnt get a straight answer from Suncorp, whom I have used for motor vehicles for many years. I dont know about others, but I think that boat insurance is a bit more specialised and that is why I went with a specialist boat insurer, rather than a mainstream insurer.

And that Dave, is why I started the post originally ....to hear those horror stories so I would know who to steer clear of, but not too many have come forth.
When you read the small print all the policies read the same and even though they say its in plain english it isn't any English I've ever heard. Its only after the event that you find out whether the policy was too good to be true or not.
How do you know paying more is going to make the payout come any quicker?
I figure if I have all my policies under the one mob they will move quick enough or else they will lose about 2 grand in annual premiums on the other policies I have
Cheers

;D :D ;D ;) true enough mangomick. suncorp are keen to fix things quickly as i have found out recently. my boat policy is with a $10,000,000 liability and also has ski cover. It may not be the cheapest around, but they have been great with the few claims I have made over the years. Service sometimes costs, but poor service always costs more. Good luck and safe boating!
cheers, Geoff

yep, that's the go. try to get all of your insurances with the one company for maximum discount. we use racq for the lot, house, contents, 2 cars and boat plus ctp as well.
