I mentioned to the better half tonight, 'all i need is to get another light bay rod then i'll be set' well she was bent over laughing and if that was bad enough the comment was " i think ill be hearing that for the rest of my life' and 'you always say that' :o

Home-truths? i thought i had laid the groundwork by suggesting the latest addition would be a rod she could use, :D

Well next round ill have to come up with something a bit more original i reckon

ive done alright with the standards so far but im sprung

cheers

I know how you feel Mike.
With 29 or so rods in the shed at the moment and a real burning to buy a new spin stick my wife has a tad of trouble understanding my reasoning. Geez I nearly got away with it once saying the fish are too educated these days for my old gear cuz they hang around in schools.......had her for about 2 minutes i think.
Geez its hard to find an understanding member of the opposite sex!!

I have convinced mine that I just need a set up for every type if fishing that I might want to do. So now when an other rod, reel or what ever shows up she agrees that It might come in handy. A couple of rods for trolling , couple of rods for jigging couple rods for the rocks, couple of rods for .........

you poor blokes...you should adopt the following attitude..grab the car keys..head towards the door...when she asks where you are going..tell her..to the tackle shop to buy another fishing rig. She will ask why..the response is..cos I can and just keep going. NO need for explanations or pleadings or anything...just do it. Stand up and be a man...don't be squeamish...women have a problem realising that the rules of life clearly state that he who dies with the most toys win. Simple but true..all life's game.

PS...do not blame me if the door is locked when you get home and your clothes are strewn over the front yard...that is another lil obstacle to overcome.

i use gregs advice a lot,,,, but with a slight difference,,,,,

when the front door slams shut,,, i wait for about 1-2 minutes,,,,

then i quitely crawl out from under the bed,,,, and check that all is clear before making my way to the truck and heading off to the shop;D ;D ;D

after the theft though of my gear,,, i was that dirty that she actually told me to replace it,,,,,,, hello hello,,,,,, have cash will travel

so i took up her advice and did it,,,,,,,,,,, then over the following few days i recovered about 80-90% of the rods that were taking,,,,, now i just sit in the shed,,,,, waiting to hear that door slam again so i can go back inside;D ;D

I thought i was being sly one day when i bought a new Rod and placed it in the spare room alongside all the other Rods. I could not believe it when the wife came home and pinged it straight away. Who would have thought she knew the exact number of rods that i had?? I also got done when i bought a new sounder without mentioning it. Hid the box in the car but got sprung reading the manual while hiding around the garage. She must have eyes in the back of her head that woman!

There evil I tell ya... try to turn it around and say....Oh yeah, well why do you need so many shoes huh ? you've only got one pair of feet...... It will not work..you will never win. You must go against everything that you know to be good and decent, and aquire your gear using underhanded methods.
This is what they've reduced us to...... evil I tell ya.

I built up the collection of combos to 26:o and just kept a few in the boat.....some in the shed..... some on the rack..

All was sweet untill my wife started to count them one day>:( >:( ..But I weatherd the storm and managed to keep all of them;D

But one of her friends asked why she let me get a G-Loomis at $400 and it was on again:'( lucky she didn't see the good gear:P

so it looks like I have to stop for a while now....untill I find a new spot to hid them::)

2rods, hide them at my place as I am already in the dog house... so a few more rods won't hurt lol

Umm, I only have 10 combos though, 26 is rediculous.

my missus birthday soon, might be time to upgrade some of my rods...lol

I wouldn't dare..... maybe a new targa top for the boat for her,

or I might just have to go out and by non fishing related things for her as she will never talk to me again, ummm which might be a good thing for some.... lol

My technique is simple ,i go in the shop and buy it.Not her business and she couldnt care less how many rods and gadgets i have as long as it makes me happy. On the other hand she can go shoeshopping on my credit card any time.
As Greg put it you poor blokes ,do you have to ask for permission to go fishing too?

Hows it going guys

I have the problem that my missus reckons one rod does everything she doesnt understand that a surf rod is useless for boat work and vise versa plus she cant understand why my 2kg sp estuary rig wont cut the mustard offshore

its an uphill battle every time i need (want) more gear

Buy the combo, wrap and put under the xmas tree with a tag addressed to you from santa, then blame santa. No problem. ;D ;D

Jeff.

P.S. Santa's bringing me an Egrell S10/Daiwa Certate 4000 combo.8-)

I have a different problem, mine rides horses and I use the excuse you can't use the same saddle for every style of riding and every horse as they're all different so she agrees with our rod and reel principle.

But when we go fishing she likes my curado 300 reel and raider impoundment barra rod so much she wants to swap and I'm stuck with a pink ugly stick for the rest of the day.

LMFAO - this is a great thread, most blokes are in the same boat ( or dog-house ) I reckon. My Angel is well past trying to talk sense or reason with me...... I use the "buy it now and take the heat later" method. That way when I get sent to the dog-house, I just grab my shiny new rod or combo and go fishin.

BTW - She has been given 2 combo's for birthdays before and has only ever been fishing with me once. If you must take her fishing, go where there is absolutely no chace of getting even a nibble, that way they get bored out of their brains, and never want to go with you again.

Maybe we should chip in a couple of bucks each & build a shed in a central location to hide all the toys we shouldn't have. It could become a shrine to worship the fishing Gods.
Naturally it would have to include the compulsory bar, dart board & pool table.

You blokes have got it all wrong. Take your wife out, put her onto some good fishing and she will be hooked for life;D . The only problem I have is that my wife is the one who comes home with new rods and a bag full of SP’s each time she goes near a tackle shop:-/ . To make it a bigger problem she will often land more and better fish on this gear than I do.:-[

None of them will complain about much about wearing 10 grands worth of useless rock on their finger . Having 50 + rods well thats just being prepared in case of emergency.

Good to know its not just me and my wife. That scenario sounds strangely familiar.
