What boats can you fit in a DLUG

I am looking at buying a new boat but it needs to fit in a double lock up garage, preferably only using one side. I have about 2 metres clearance for height and 6 metres in length (maybe seven). But if all else fails I might just have to take up the whole garage and park it in on an angle. I am mainly after ideas or photos of boats people have fit in a garage. Obviously a normal tinny would fit, or the new style breaming boats with casting platforms etc. I am after something that could be used outside, I currently have a 6 metre fibreglass boat and like the freedom of being able to go out on a slightly choppier day on the bay or have the ability to go outside. Probably something with reasonably high sides, maybe centre console.

I am open to any suggestions just after some ideas. Would getting a trailor with the A-frame that folds back on itself give me a bit more room and can all trailors have these adjustments made to them.

Had the same problem Andrew. When I built the house I had the garage built 8 metres deep so that kingtin @ 6.1m would fit in easily. Then I wanted a better offshore boat at a similar size but the only one that I could find that would fit height wise was a barcrusher.

The deckie didn't like the short cab on the barcrusher and went and ordered the Whittley, which of course, didn't fit and is now sat on the drive. I got tired of looking at an empty garage so I then had to buy a stacer 3.95 to fill up that 8metre garage. Of course, that wasn't big enough so I then had to buy a freezer (for bait exclusively of course). There was still an empty space so a work bench for making up tackle, a couple of battery chargers, jump packs, cast nets etc then filled it up nicely ;-)

I have a 4.5M runabout. And I guess a pretty much standard DLUG. Lengthwise the boat just fits - at a slight angle with the motor angled to the max. Heightwise the windscreen just fits under the door.

Andrew, I used to have a 4.55m c/c and it fitted great on one side. With the standard doorways - height of 2.1m and 2.25m wide you are limited as to what you can fit.

7m can fit a lot more boat than 6m. You will need a trailer with a 'swing-away drawbar', adds approx $450 to the price of the trailer. With one of these the garage length of your rig is boat O/All hull length + motor.

2m ht will restrict you to about a 5.3 -5.5m runabout. Add approx 650-700mm for the motor = ~max 6.35m assuming bowsprit is ~150.

You may also need a jockey skate to drop the drawbar down low enough to get the screen under the door head, as the std jockey won't get low enough.

Most manufacturers now give you fairly good specs, however check yourself just in case.

Went through this excercise a few years back, but ended up with a bigger boat anyway.

Standard DLUGs have 2400mm wide roller doors from memory ... well, at least mine did !

I changed the centre door to 2700mm and can get in a 5.0 Seajay Centre Console in but the shed is 7.6 metres deep ... I have about 150mm from the hitch to the rollerdoor when shut. Outboard has to be down to get it in ...

Trailer is the big 500 series from Redco (Sportsman). Single axle, braked.

Maybe the width might pull you up a bit as to what you can fit ???

I have the optional fold down Targa Bar and Bimini ... and also the optional fold down Centre Console Top ... to get it in height wise.

Andrew, i have built alot of industrial sheds/ commercial buildings and the extension i have drawn was a favorate amongst people who had extra room at the back of there standard sheds to take advantage of, for you were not doing much alteration, and it did not cost alot to do, for under $450 bucks and alittle work with a screw gun!! You can modify it to suit yourself!!

we have got a 4.6 clark cc it fits in with console folded down and on a slight angle heres a pick will take better pick in the morning with it right in

i just went through this, standard garage, ended up with a 4.5 with normal trailer, motor right down, reckon i could now fit a 5mtre with experience of angles etc;D
