Hi all,
My life has been turned insideout,Upsidedown,And sideways latley.I've been through some of the highest highs ;D ,And the lowest lows :'( life can throw at you within the last three months.
Friday morning was one of the most refreshing sessions I've had on the water in a very long time.Lake Baroon was chosen to help me rejuvenate my mind.
(Had a sicky :) )
As always no matter how bad,Or good for that matter,Your life is going.Everything seems to dissapear on the water. And it's you and the fish.
It was a gentlemens start with the first cast landing amongst the shaded banks around 6:30am.Kyle commenced with a proven technique for us here before,He rolled TN/60's from the bank,Out over the weedbeds,With a constant medium paced wind.I opted to gamble for the best hit you can recieve in fishing :- The Topwater Strike.I chose a Megabass Dog X Jr as my weapon of choice.
Kyle had a couple of small Bass in the boat as I walked and paused my pencilb8 from under trees,Over shallow weeds,And amongst bankside tussocks.Information is constantly flowing back and forth between us,And he told me the fish were pretty high in the collumn,As he was retrieving as soon as the lure splashed down. This had me thinkin they were not too far beneath the surface,And I persisted in hope of the ultimate fishin rush.
We observed the fish to be a little patchy.Landing a few fish,And gettin a few bumps over about a 30-40m fish holding stretch,Then nothing for say 50m.You'd then come across another stretch favoured by the fish,And the bites would commence again.
We got to the end of the shady section,And I reached for my trap rigged rod.Kyle had now around five or six landed,To my nothing. Now armed with a TN/60,The sensation of the line comin alive was to be also enjoyed by me.It gets me everytime :) .
I started peggin the young gun back.Fish,By fish. And as usual the chatter and banter was flowing hard ;D .After a couple of nudges on different retrieves I began to think that the Bass weren't quite commited,And I slowed my retrieve a little. This still drew bumps,But after a nudge I began pausing the wind,And employing a few twitches to entice a full on bite.It was workin a treat,And my tally started to climb. As always when Bassin,There are the odd few that are just straight up rude,And just belt the livin crap outta ya lure :) .I can't get enough of em.
We came into a small inlet with a nice amount of grass and timber that extended into the water. There was the odd small swirl appearing,So the Dog X was deployed. It just stunk of fish,And I was waiting for a Bass or maybe even a Cod to explode all over my lure. But the only topside taker for the day was a tiny Spangled Perch no bigger than the lure itself 8-) .
We went back to the rattlers and weeds method,Taking more Bass and agressive little Spanglys.I tried a suspending minnow in another shaded inlet that screamed fish to no avail.Kyle took only two fish from this section on the trap.We both thought there would have been many more,But the fish just didn't wanna be there. So we continued fishin our way round the lake.We found more Bass over gentle tapering weedbeds in direct sunlight water,And this seemed to be their prefered locations.
As the sun got high we decided to call it a morning,And motored back to the ramp. The local ranger came over for a chat that turned out to be very informative. He let us know that there was no oxygen available below around 12ft,And all the fish were in the upper water collumn. He also gave us a few spots to try upon our return.A couple of other things were dissclosed that are better kept secret 8-) ,And we then parted ways.Nice bloke with some handy info.
Our tally for the session was.
Kyle. 20 Bass and 6 Spangled Perch.
Me. 28 Bass and 4 Perch.
Our average fish size was pretty small,About 25cm,With the best one goin about 38.
But on this day that sayin :- The fish are just a bonus....Was indeed very true for me.Sometimes fishing is so much more than just catching fish. Thanks alot Kyle for a top day :) .
Another quick thanks to the Rangers,And anyone else involved in the stocking of this waterway. It was a privilege,And a pleasure.
Regards. B8.;)
