After pulling the plug on a trip to the reef off Mission beach on tuesday due to the weather, today was the last chance before the reef closure and the forecast was not so bad.
Picked up Carl around 3AM and were underway from the ramp about half an hour later.
Soon as we went around the rockwall I knew we were in for a pounding.
Bit of a steep closely spaced swell and we were aiming directly into it.
"Ahh.. we have got all day"was Carl's response.
Well 3 hours and 50 k's later we decided to put out some lures and troll the last 5k's as this was the speed we were travelling anyway.
So we finally reached my nannigy spot at 7 am.Trip took 3.5 hours....ouch....http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/undecided.gif

Started fishing both bottom and floating pillies and a live bait.
Just nothing was happening.
finally caught a quality trout,a smaller trout and a long nosed emperor but not much else.
Pulled in lines to move and watched a spanish mac follow my pilly to the back of the boat..bloody frustrating.
Pulled up at the next spot and the largemouth nanny's were biting. Landed seven before the bite stopped and Carl was happy as these were his first nanny's and he did well to land them.
Scored a couple more trout,a cobia and a small shark mackeral but dissapointingly we did not land a spanish mackeral for the day.

Anyway we got a feed,Carl got to land his first nanny's and the trip home took a little over an hour. Both of us were just glad to be out on the water for the day.Though we are both very sore and sorry.

PS.. Who actually invented boats made out of tin?

warti,I think you may be onto something there.lol

Jt,

mate, I was just glad to get out for the day and catch a few as well.
Sure did make me think about boats, though.
Just heard that we are getting a pontoon put in at the ramp so I might have to start sucking up to the missus a bit more,so I can get a new glass boat.
Something like your CC would be a real sweet rig .
It might even give a more comfy ride than my 26 yr old stacer.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/grin.gif

Sounds like a fun trip Scott, wouldn't mind dragging my tub up that way at some stage. Would you be keen on doing a tag along some time?

Wouldn't be too hard to twist my arm,Lee.
Overnighter would be even better, maybe even scout out a bit of new ground for Reds.
Let me know, though I'm pretty flexible as long as I don't have to endure any more 3.5 hour trips.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/undecided.gif

I was up at Mission Beach on the weekend. Flat calm on Sunday. But it usually is if i cant go fishing. Any word on when the pontoon is going in at the boat ramp Scott? I'm very keen to drag my boat up as well, but being glass i was a little concerned about the lack of a pontoon.

Shane,I'm not holding my breath.Haven't heard a definite date.
The council still hasn't put back up the light pole at the top of the ramp that was blown over by cyclone larry in march 2006.
So things move pretty slowly up here in our little backwater.
But the sooner the better as the ramp services quite a large area.

Sounds like a plan Scott, will keep in touch and hopefully get up that way soon. Put money on the weather being crap now that a trip is on the cards though.

Shane, a few extra scratches will match the ones you got when you forgot to take off your light board that day.:D

Well i'm thinking we should make it a threesome.... Thanks Lee, i'd managed to forget about that day... What a shocker eh... Maybe we couls organise a meet ang greet with a few others? its getting to the time of year when we all have a bit of time off.. Scott, can you reccomend a good place to stay where we can keep the boats? i stayed at Castaways on the weekend and i dont think they are boat friendly

Probably a cabin in one of the van parks would be the best bet.
There is one in North mission, wongaling, and south mission beach.

No Beach Shane.....easiest way to retrieve a glass boat is just to run it straight up onto the rocks..like i saw a fella do one day..pulled him up pretty quick too..http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/shocked.gifhttp://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/grin.gif.
