Just spent the weekend up Kauri creek for a short camp. Got up early Saturday and met up with some friends that had well and trully set up camp. Started off by getting around 20 whiting for bait then up the creek. Saturday only produced a small jack of 32cm and a 35cm bar tailed flathead. Sunday didnt produce anything. The temperature was really getting up and we were hopefull of some Barra before the season ended but to no avail. There really does seem to be a small window between getting quality saltwater Barra and the season closing. I had some really good fun chasing what it think was a MASSIVE ray halfway from the mainland to fraser island. We chased this fish on 5-6 runs over about 600m before my leader broke just above the hook (or i was bitten off). Would have loved to get a look but everytime i saw my sinker off he went again.
P.S. Kauri creek is now a complete go slow zone from the first port marker out in the strait right up the reaches of the river so watch out for fisheries.
Cheers Chris
