After a break in the offshore fishing, I was keen to blow out the cobwebs and hit hutchies for some reel screaming action. Headed up north of Moreton Island for some offshore SP action. As we approached the first mark the sounder lit up with big bait balls and large fish around them. Set up the first drift and out went the SP's. First cast from Zilli and he gets smashed on the drop. Before I had my SP in the water, we have a good sized snapper in the boat. Awesome! ;D Second fish in the boat is also to zilli, another snappery/squire. Just as a light shower approached the fish really came on. oddbudman and myself landing two nice snapper, then a couple of double hook-ups and the esky is looking very healthy. Originally planned on trolling around for some hoo, but hearing the results from the sailfish comp, we opted not to bother and waste the fuel.
Managed to land a nice king and two ambo's followed by a couple of smaller squire as the bite slowed. Couple of sizzling runs with bent hooks and dropped fish. By far the best offshore SP session to date. Great fun with some good results. Best fish of the day fell to a gulp, the rest to normal plastics. Travelled back down the bay jigging beacons for schoolies and searching for an early LT. Found and couple of small schools of but to skittish and only managed one really good cast into a school as they past us.

Was a great session, with some nice quality fish landed on the plastics gear. Can't wait to get back out there and do it all again.
That timed photo is a cracker!

liberty, i thought we could see you a little further north of us! where you using bait or SP's?
Madmac you were doing the same drift as us and saw you land a couple. Did you do any good on the jigging front? Could hear one of your blokes was a little sea-sick! Good to hear you got a few as well.

SPs - various types -
6" nuc chk grubs
5" nuc chk shads
7" green/white shads
7" pink/white shads
All to no avail. All in complete contrast to a very successful trip 2 weeks ago. All very frustrating!
Even Frank OO was looking a bit concerned when I saw him in the morning ...

Hi Liberty,
you are right I was a bit concerned with just a couple of AJs in the bag. Headed out to nowhere and caught in excess of 20 Snapper, Pearlies and two Cobia to boot.
Trolled around for a bit bot no action on the skirts.
Another two weeks may make all the difference.
Well done on the Snapper boys
