Greetings all!

Having spent the last 40 odd years as a confirmed bait fisherman I'm just about coming round to the idea of fishing with soft plastics.

I have a 6'8'' 3-5kg Rack Raider and an Okuma Epix EF 20 spooled with 4lb/6lb Fireline that I've been using to fish small unweighted baits. (I also have a 14ft tinny and a 7 footer for creeping about in shallow or narrow water.)

With an initial outlay limited to 50 or 60 bucks what basic gear would I need to buy to fish for flatties and bream in the Richmond river?

If possible can you be fairly specific i.e. 1/4 oz size 2 jig-heads or 2'' pumpkinseed grubs etc.

Best regards, Rob.

Okies Rob, 50-60 bucks lets see you need some flourocarbon leader material around 10lb or so. I presume you will be fishing in water less than say 4m mostly so I would opt for both 1/8 and 1/4 oz TTlures 3/0 jigheads. I would then be looking for a packet of gulp 4" or 5" jerkshads in nuclear chicken.
I would also be looking for a packet of 3 or 4" paddle tail shads in a black and white colour (atomic real shads are perfect)

Thats ur 50 bucks gone mate and those softs will produce the goods no troubles.

Jack.

G'day!

Many thanks for that!

It's given me a starting point and something to build on when Christmas arrives. My 2 and 4 year old daughters will no doubt live to buy daddy some rubber fishies and worms.

I have a packet of Tsunami 3'' redfish shads with internal weight and a few Kokoda shads with an underslung treble. Can these be fished in a similar way?

Thanks again, Rob.

Pommy i use 3 inch berkley minnows in smelt scales colour for bream on a tt 1/8th oz head in no 2 hook, this will also catch flathead, but for targetting flathead i would go to berkley bream pro 1/4 oz head in 1/0 hook and use atomic 3 inch minnows as they are more chunky, if you want to try the snapper use the 3 inch atomics on a berkley salt water pro 1/0 hook and whatever weight suits, if your fishing deep water just put plastic on dropper rig and jig it when its on the bottom.
