Guys Not an Aussie so excuse me if I don't get some of the lingo on the posts here. I just purchased a Shimano Twin Power 5000 PG. As it is a reel not available in the states I am reaching out here to get some opinions. Shimano makes some good stuff just wnat to know how these reel hold up.

Don't know about the 5000, but I do have a 2500 that I use for Red (we call them Snapper) fishing in shallow water and it is fantastic. Very solid compared to my other Shimano's that are the same rating (2500). Can load with very heavy braid and the drag will take it.
I know someone that put 30lb braid on a 2500 and chased mackeral and tuna just to see how it went and he said it was unbreakable.

Cheech Thanks for you reply, Planned to use mine on Striped Bass on the East coast, Which have more of a mystic about them than the ability to run hard.
I have noticed in some site the mention of using for Tuna, I would have to think football sized blue fin (Us football that is)and little tunnie(False albacore).
.
I've got "football" size tuna(longtail or blue fin and Mac Tuna) on a Shimano 2000 spirex so id rate the 5000PG twinpower a long way above that.
I think the reel your looking at will have plenty of power for Striped bass. I've never had a bad shimano but then i've never tested one to its absolute limits either.
cheers Roo.

As Roo said, football size I would use my 2500. The fish I target on my 2500 is anything up to 8 - 10 lb. (though I do fish very light). When we say Tuna, we are usually talking between 2-3 feet long. With your 5000 I would use it for anything our bay or estuaries had to offer. That would include Tuna double or triple the size of a football, and Mackeral (vaguely resembles a barracuta?) up to around 4 feet long. You would struggle to overload a 5000 twin power. What line are you intending on using? I would probably put 30lb braid on it.
